Favourite exercise at the gym

If you're into weight lifting what is the exercise you look forward to the most. I love the deadlift, makes me feel strong (although as I'm getting older my back is coping less and less)
The deadlift is indeed a fantastic exercise that targets multiple muscle groups and can make you feel incredibly strong. However, it's understandable that as you age, concerns about your back become more prominent, as proper form and technique are crucial for preventing injuries.

If you're looking for alternative exercises that still provide a sense of strength and accomplishment without as much strain on the back, here are a few options you might enjoy:

Trap Bar Deadlift: Also known as the hex bar deadlift, this variation places less stress on the lower back compared to the traditional deadlift, making it a safer option for those with back concerns.

Romanian Deadlift (RDL): This variation focuses more on the hamstrings and glutes while still engaging the lower back and upper body. It can help improve hip mobility and strengthen the posterior chain.

Hip Thrusts: A great exercise for targeting the glutes and hamstrings while minimizing stress on the lower back. It's especially beneficial for improving hip extension and overall lower body strength.

Bent-over Rows: Strengthening the back muscles is important for maintaining good posture and reducing the risk of back pain. Bent-over rows target the muscles of the upper and middle back, as well as the biceps.

Pull-ups/Chin-ups: These compound exercises work multiple muscle groups in the upper body, including the back, arms, and shoulders. They can help improve overall upper body strength and functional fitness.

Lunges: Lunges are a versatile lower body exercise that targets the quads, hamstrings, and glutes while also engaging the core for stability. They can be performed with body weight, dumbbells, or a barbell.

Remember to always prioritize proper form and technique, and listen to your body's signals. If a particular exercise exacerbates your back pain or discomfort, consider modifying it or seeking guidance from a qualified fitness professional. Additionally, incorporating exercises that improve mobility, stability, and core strength can help support your overall fitness and reduce the risk of injury.

Tie between lat pulldown and incline bench press.
@MarkPaul ChatGPT is copyrighted? A computer can hire a lawyer and sue me? Seriously?

@FrogManSometimesLooksBothWays Yes... just ask ChatGPT. This will be appearing on your permanent record. I think we better have a conference with you and your parents for this latest infraction of the code of conduct handbook.

@Mordechai sounds like a plan. Pretty much doing this without the pause at the moment, maybe I'll add it in

Squats seems to be the favorite at this time.
I used to love snatches and bench presses but shoulder is now giving me some problems.
I can go back and fourth on deadlifts.
AzgedaBellamy · 41-45, M
@Adrift I have never attempted a snatch, I know I'd mess it up.
Adrift · 61-69, F
@AzgedaBellamy Snatches are something I can watch people do all day at an event. The Jr lifters seem to be able to do them all day.

Agreed. Squat is a close second
AzgedaBellamy · 41-45, M
@SW-User puts a lot of pressure on my lower back love squat but I have to leave my ego at home when doing squats 🤣
SW-User
@AzgedaBellamy yep. Slow, good form, and who cares how heavy or light it is 👍🏻

Leg extensions

I really like forearm dumbbell twists atm
AzgedaBellamy · 41-45, M
@Mordechai I don't do any forearm specific work 🤔 the only work they get is from lifts that will engage them anyway
Mordechai · 31-35, M
@AzgedaBellamy They're fun to work on and you really feel them blow up when you do it.

If I did actually get to the gym I’d probably choose the weights like dumbbells or the leg press

@Monalisaa1986 👍🏽 helps me so much with my mental health, I go for as much that as my physical well-being
