When you were a kid, what did you spend your allowance on?

Saturday morning I'd blow my 35 cents on a cream soda, small bag of chips and a comic book 😀

Marvel Comics, back issues, science fiction books and the cinema.

Gibbon · 70-79, M

AdaXI · T
@Gibbon It was called Karateka I think.

Edit: Yeah I misread your comment a little there, my bad LOLZ😄

PatientlyWaiting25 · 46-50, F
Books and magazines usually. Some sweets if I had any money left.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@PatientlyWaiting25 what genre books and magazines?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Sat mornings we had movies with cartoons, etc.
@samueltyler2

When the cartoon came on it seemed like every kid yelled YAYYYYY in unison!
Airfix models
therighttothink50 · 61-69, M
Baseball cards, soft pretzels and Burger King. Need no for an allowance from age 12 I had a 110 customer paper route.
JSul3 · 70-79
Baseball cards, 45 rpm records, sports magazines, and monster magazines.
@JSul3

Do you remember your first 45 and what it cost?

Monster magazines?? Who woulda guessed? 🤭
JSul3 · 70-79
@rinkydinkydoink Back then, 45s were $0.98.
Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis....in a picture sleeve.
I still have it.
@JSul3

That is amazing (having it this long - with the sleeve, to boot!)

My 12 yrs older sister had - then lost due to mismanagement - quite a record collection. Her recordings of the big three JLL records (Great Balls of Fire, Breathless and Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On) were 78s.
DDonde · 36-40, M
I'd save it up to get video games
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I never had allowance. I got money on my birthday, for school reports and for school trips. It was more than enough for me. I had many family relatives, lol.
SirLirkALot · 46-50, M
I blew it all at the arcade
@SirLirkALot

You invested in FUN!
Nothing wrong with that :D

Gusman · 61-69, M
I never got an allowance.
Once a month we went to the flicks.
TurtlePink · F
Sims 3 and iTunes
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
Saving it up for a telescope.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@rinkydinkydoink actually, I bought it from a photographer. I had to clean the optics and recollimate it. Made the base from a heavy aluminum pedestal that was being thrown out at a medical company. Even had money left over.
@Tastyfrzz

Ever have a chance to stargaze in an area perfect for just that?
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@rinkydinkydoink my place up north is good.
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
Books. Always books.
LeGrotesque · 46-50, F
@rinkydinkydoink books get very heavy!!! I had no more room in the moving truck either. I had to let them go, consoling myself that some other bookish girl would obtain them and expand her world as I once had.
@LeGrotesque

That's a beautiful thought 💭
@LeGrotesque Henry Bemis
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
Can of Coke and an egg roll and chips . For a dollar .
AthrillatheHunt · 56-60, M
@rinkydinkydoink iDK bro. This was late 70’s.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@rinkydinkydoink I recently came across about 50 MAD magazines from the 80s in the place I now live.
@Gusman

Nice 👍🏻
MrVintage71 · 51-55, M
1/2( Yes Half penny!)to 1pence sweets,and Panini football stickers ,which came with a stick of strawberry gum...
@MrVintage71

Wow... that wasn't all that long ago, as well. A half penny?!
MoveAlong · 70-79, M
Baseball cards, bubble gum, soft drinks, candy. I could have gotten a larger allowance if my parents hadn't had to spend so much on dental bills.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@MoveAlong I think you are recalling the original meaning of ‘drill baby drill’. 🤣
Candies and magazines
Bignakedguy · 31-35, M
💿 CDs and DVDs 📀 sometimes video games 🎮

I would save my lunch money, I would literally just drink water all day at school instead of buying lunch.

I would make an extra 6 bucks for mowing the lawn.

Go to the bus 🚌 and head to the mall. The virgin mega store was my sanctuary!

Convenience store candies
@Adroneandastrain

Every kid should grow up with a convenience store close by... ! The wonders to behold :D
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
I didn’t get an allowance
Chips and candy.
@MsSwan

Are there any words in the English language that go together so well?
TheRealBarbossa · 36-40, T
I didn't get an allowance
@TheRealBarbossa

That's sad. Quite a few have answered the same way :(
swirlie · 31-35, F
Stocks and bonds mostly.
@swirlie

@swirlie

swirlie · 31-35, F
@rinkydinkydoink
There ya go!
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
Saturday morning kids' matinée at the cinema, a comic or perhaps sweets from Woolworth's. I don't think there was enough for both
@FreddieUK

I had no idea what "high streets" meant so I googled that term... it looks like W's may return

Now Woolworths might be making a comeback as the German CEO Roman Heini says new UK stores are on his "bucket list."
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@rinkydinkydoink That's interesting. The state of our town centres (down town) is a hot topic at the moment as people bemoan the loss of traditional shops. Of course, they don't want to know that they caused that by shopping online.
@FreddieUK

Excellent - but revealing and sad - point about online shopping :(
empanadas · 31-35, M
Books/comics and video games
