What should I do to celebrate?

It's my 25th graduation anniversary from high school this year. Where did the time GO??? I graduated in 2000 and didn't even realize it was this year!! I got an invite to a party reunion for it but most of the people were really stand offish. I only had two friends. I won't be going but maybe I'll celebrate in some way myself. I rarely go out or do anything fun. What should I do?

I think I would celebrate by myself. It doesn't sound like you'll have much fun. Maybe order so fancy take out, get a nice drink, make a fire and enjoy a nice music

I have been to a couple of my wife's HS reunions with her. Most of the people who showed up were people she never hung out with much in HS either. From what I could see, whoever happened to show up just started socializing with the others, even if they had not been close friends in the past.

So I have a radical proposition for you.

Go to the reunion.

It might the perfect opportunity for someone with social anxiety: you have no emotional investment in these people, and you will probably never see them again. It's a one-shot social occasion with no long-term consequences. Lots of people there will feel as disconnected with others as you will. Nobody is going to focus on you, as if they are testing you. It's not like a "date."

Once you sit down at a table, people around you will start talking, and you will find you can gradually work your way into the conversation, even if only to say a word here and there. Don't worry about anything more than that. So what if people just remember you as "the quiet one at our table?" Enjoy what others are saying, enjoy the food, enjoy the music....and come back home able to say "I did it!"

@DrWatson I think it's a wonderful idea, however my time in HS was not wonderful. Many made me feel like an outsider. I'm sure I'd enjoy a couple conversations that would be enjoyable, but there's a few there I just cant really face. But ty my friend for a wonderful thought 🌼 maybe I'll go to a nice place and actually order a celebratory drink and make myself talk to someone ☺

@Coralmist You could order a drink and tell people that you're at your homeschool reunion! 😄

@DrWatson 🤭😛

My wife and I went to most of our reunion parties and enjoyed them. You might be surprised to find that people are happy to see you. Sure, a few will want to brag about their accomplishments, but most will enjoy just being with others who shared experiences in high school.

I only went to my ten year with my first wife. That was back when we had lots of friends and drank. Now I don't drink, lost all of my friends because of that, and am in the process of getting my second divorce. We have our 30 year reunion this year. I won't be attending.

I graduated 38 years ago! I’ve never once celebrated the anniversary of that but if you want to, maybe you should dress up in like clothes from that era and play the music that was popular and order yourself a pizza and hang out with your sister
spend it with us and share some pics from your yearbook if you still have....ps, thanks for making me feel old. this year was my 36th anniversary from graduating 🤣

@beermeplease Oh some yearbook pics, good idea!! You are not old Beer🙂🫂
@Coralmist aw thanks...maybe a little bit flat 🤭
You should go, see how everyone has changed. Mingle awhile then leave if your not having a good time.

Get in contact with the people you liked and have your own reunion!
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@Muthafukajones unfortunately the only two I was friends with, we lost touch. And I wouldn't want to be in touch again. So I guess it's a solo reunion of one lol. I might splurge on a nice dinner perhaps 🙂

I remember when you were in infants school, singing all day .

Rent a fancy car and a trophy man and kid, and show up in style. Say you work for a top Boston law firm, bank, or hospital. Or you are a Harvard or MIT professor. If they wonder why you are so shy say you majored in math. We mathematicians are shy.

😁

@JoyfulSilence Haha that would be a memory of a lifetime if I had the gumption!!

@Coralmist

I wish I could rent my parents some grandchildren to play with.

They seem so bored, LOL!
Go.

But make plans with your two friends.

@samueltyler2 unfortunately the two friends I had then I lost touch with a few years ago.

@Coralmist both?
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@samueltyler2 exactly... unfortunately. 😟 But I'm better for it. They took advantage of my shy personality , one of them, and treated me lowly. Other one thought I wasn't enough essentially because I wasn't going forward in my life. Really wonderful feels 🙂‍↕
