Near forest fire on my farm January 28th, 2025. I used all my Godly good luck up maybe for 2025.
Being it is winter with a lot of snow on the ground and no burning bans in the state of Ohio. I decided to burn a pile of brush at the very outer edge of my forest while cutting firewood. The pile smoldered and did not take off burning as I cut my first load of firewood and took it to the garage to unload for splitting later. As I go to the garage the wind kicked up fast and pretty hard. That made the brush pile burn through the snow and spread like crazy. I returned to the fire and tried to get it contained and put out, but after an hour of trying I ran down to the house and called 911 reporting a brush fire getting out of control rapidly on me. The rural fire department was notified and arrived 20 minutes later as I was now fighting a woodland fire on my own. an hour and a half later they had it contained and burned out and left. my farm.
I was not in trouble for anything, and I thank God I did not lose my forest just three plus acres of brushy area and heavens forbid if it burned my entire forest then the neighbors socking me with millions of dollars of debt for the neighbor's timber value. I thank God it was contained and put out. Or I would have been bankrupted.
I did suffer having my jeans burn off from my cuff to my knees and having my boots melted away. I was standing in socks and what looked like shorts when the fire department arrived and took over as I collapsed from heat and smoke inhalation.
Again, God saved my bacon literally and did not allow me to suffer burns, just sever heat exposure to my skin.
One Lucky Willa.
