Milton is going to F Florida up.

That’s a scary looking storm.

Which is cheaper, subsidizing green energy or paying for Hurricane cleanup?

It’s getting really hard to deny at this point.

I read that wind speeds were up to 180 mph earlier off the coast. That's almost unfathomable.
Florida is not in a good position. They'll be taking the brunt of water rising and more intense hurricanes.
And these types of storms will continue to become more frequent and more intense. No doubt.
And yet, despite models showing around 2 feet of sea level rise in the next 30 to 40 years, Florida is still building on the coastline. Because it's dry there now.
Blows my mind.

@BlueGreenGrey I hear you. As I get older I'm feeling more that, from a human life perspective, Democracy has an underbelly that's not serving us well. Never thought it would roll over and show itself though. There were also agreed upon guardrails. But when those are destroyed we end up with a big part of the population, and some elected officials, believing the current storms in Florida and NC were created by the government to target Republicans.
I've been in the path of a major wildfire for the last month. The smoke was horrific for days on end. So reading comments online from those who were joyful about the destruction, while denouncing any man made contribution to the conditions, tells me the Democracy may not be the best path moving forward. At least on the issue of climate change. And maybe social media overall. You can't have the weakest and most ignorant bringing everyone down. Not when survival is on the table.

Cat 5…that’s just terrifying! This one’s definitely going to cost billions to clean up, and gods know how many lives lost 😞

Subsidizing green energy won't get rid of hurricanes. There were many Spanish ships sunk by hurricanes 4-500 years ago. It may eventually have the effect of making hurricanes less severe?
Ynotisay · M
@walabby I've never heard anyone say that green energy would end hurricanes. If people are up to speed on green energy and climate change they understand what weather is. They also understand frequency and severity. That's where climate change meets weather.
@trollslayer Speaking of natural disasters in general - this is where the money is going.

@ElwoodBlues And that only goes to 2020. I would assume you could come close to doubling it today.

On the news there was a weather forecast predicting 10 to 15 foot storm surges along part of the Florida coast. Officials seem to be saying "evacuate or die" in many areas of the state. :(

Yet they will... Right up to the point where the water level reaches their jaw line

@BlueGreenGrey Great point. There comes a time when everyone needs to pull in the same direction on certain things. The alternative is too costly and too destructive.
