I got a visit from one of the neighbourhood kids, the other day. Who claimed they knew a way I could reduce my power bill. Apparently I had left one of my back porch lights on all night.
@Thevy29 well that might be different. These guys were under 30 years of age. I haven’t seen them around here and I don’t leave my porch lights on all night, it is an automatic one that comes on when someone steps up in the entry.
@cherokeepatti You should never let strangers into your house... If you recall I mentioned in a post last week about two Nuns who came to my door to talk about Jesus and I rudely told them to go away. I didn't follow up with that story as a family member had left their car parked in my driveway and when they came to get it. Discovered the Nuns had rammed 'God' pamphlets under the door of the boot. Scratching the paint off. The family member was all set to send the Church of these Nuns the bill for the damage except the Mechanic had fixed it for free. He said "It's not every day a person gets vandalised Nuns." 😅
We shouldn't feel bad about pushing back on strangers. It's why kids get nabbed right out from under their parents. I read a book "Protecting the Gift" and how a woman was trying to be "polite" to a guy talking to her young son in a mall, and the next thing you know he's walking out with him.
They could be up to a lot of things. In some instances it is a way to case a house. For instance, right now, they likely know if you have a dog or not.
@BrewCityBarfly a lot of retired people live around here. My neighbor’s side garage door was getting kicked in and their neighbor heard and called the police but they drove off before getting inside. Police were a minute too late responding
@cherokeepatti That's scary and another reason you're right to be cautious. I've been lucky the past 20 years or so to live in very low crime areas. Even so, I hear stories of break ins, cars being stolen, catalytic converters, etc. in near areas. I just hope they go and pick on the newer subdivisions north and south of me with the big houses before they come here. IOW pick on the rich people, not us poor folk living in 50's era houses.
@BrewCityBarfly They’ll pick anyone’s house especially if they believe you don’t have a security cam. Most of those rich neighborhood’s have security cams all over.
@cherokeepatti Yes, 250 pounds in two dogs leaves me only cleaning up the mess, and 27 years of military I know how to clean up that mess pew pew wise and so forth.
The right play toys sends a message too along with the sign hung on my front door of (Ring the doorbell and run the dog needs exercise).
@TheOrionbeltseeker More like criminals. We are having heavy rains today and my power went off over an hour ago. I called to report the outage. After reporting it the worker asked me if he could help me with anything else and I told him about this. Told him I knew they were not linked to the company but they didn’t intoduce me with their names or company and were t wearing I D badges either
@TheOrionbeltseeker I had a woman from India calling me a year ago telling me she knew I was paying too much for electricity and she was going to refund me $60. I hung up the first time she called. She called again and said the same spiel and continued telling me she needed my bank account number to send the money to. I told her if she knows where I live to come on over and ring my doorbell and put that cash in my hand.
@PhoenixPhail If I had a doorbell cam I could have gotten a photo of them to save for future references if need be. They should have told me up front what company they were working for, etc. Too many red flags. And my back had been hurting, I got up and walked to the door and then this type of bull crap for my effort.
@Wales They may have not even wanted that information. There is so much info they could gather in a home by doing an “electricity use” assessment in someone’s home. There is so much evil in this world today that nothing would surprise me. They could find out if I lived alone, if there were young children living here, if I had a dog that could be a guard dog or alert me to burglars, they could see if I had a gun safe, what type of possessions or collections of things I had, if I had supplies & food stored, and even find out what type of books I read that are on my bookshelves to see if I am conservative or liberal. There are Commies in this city that have tried to take over and my state is very Conservative in general. This is a university city and draws students from all over the country, and that is one of the main reasons a socialist mayor was voted in several years ago to wreak havoc during the Covid quarantine era and pull political stunts here. She was voted out this past year so they are likely to be doubling down in their efforts to regain some power. And the fact that there were two of these guys working together made me wary, one could have been used to distract me and the other do the dirty work while I was distracted. Didn’t trust them and they never stated their names or who they were working for either. Too many Red Flags.
@Crazywaterspring The electric company will send warnings sometimes with the bills telling us that their workers will always drive a vehicle with the company’s name on the side, wear a uniform with a photo ID and will wait if we want to call for. Verification. And they will never ask to be allowed to enter the home
When someone is trying to take advantage of you, you're not being rude by not engaging with them. You're merely reminding them that not everyone is a fool.
if i dont know you, you're not coming inside. if you are selling something....... unless its cookies, Im not interested. if you want to buy my house, keep moving, Im not selling. in other words, leave me alone, and stay off my damn lawn. LOL
@YourMomsSecretCrush They didn’t even tell me who they were working for and that was another red flag. Maybe they were going to, I don’t know. But if you expect homeowners to talk to you then maybe introduce yourselves right from the beginning.
@cherokeepatti i have the good fortune of looking like an ex con looking for an excuse to go back to prison....... some days its a good thing, some days not so much. LOL

I’d say I’m sorry I can’t talk right now I’m just sharpening my knives for my next kill
@jackjjackson I wish that I had a device I could click on that sounds like someone is cocking a gun in the room where they can’t see. Put the fear of God in them without making a threat in other words
