We shouldn't feel bad about pushing back on strangers. It's why kids get nabbed right out from under their parents. I read a book "Protecting the Gift" and how a woman was trying to be "polite" to a guy talking to her young son in a mall, and the next thing you know he's walking out with him.
They could be up to a lot of things. In some instances it is a way to case a house. For instance, right now, they likely know if you have a dog or not.

@BrewCityBarfly Yes that thought came to mind, they are casing the house. Maybe to pass on information to someone else for a finder’s fee. Or looking for other things. If they get into the home to do an “energy analysis” they can find all sorts of things can’t they?

@cherokeepatti Absolutely. Beyond getting the lay of the house and such, in some instances, while you're slightly distracted, the other might unlatch a window or door. If one takes you into another room, the other stays behind and does a quick check for any valuables. Maybe check for passwords written down in obvious places. In the bad cases, they just knock you over the head and ransack the place.

@BrewCityBarfly You know what else they can do? They can put a bug in a lamp, at the bottom of it and hear everything that is said nearby. I know that because there was a Saudi family that had been bugged by the government with a lamp-bug. The man killed his daughter because he didn’t like the man she was dating. The sounds of the murder scene were recorded and used in court. Saw this on a forensics show years ago. What they could use the information for if they bugged a lamp or whatever could indicate if anyone was at home or for other reasons. I am not paranoid but thinking how the person gained access into the Saudi family’s home to place that bug comes to my mind.

@cherokeepatti Interesting. As people in general get more tech savvy, always assume the bad guys are at the forefront. I mean, I don't like to assume the worst in people, but if I don't know you, I didn't call you, and you're trying to gain entry, not going to happen.

@BrewCityBarfly I remember reading about using bump devices to get into homes and how they hired extra CIA agents to put trackers underneath cars of citizens to spy on them. Nothing is out of the realm of possibility. And that the CIA would enter homes without permission (bumping locks was one way) but they have other methods of getting what they want.

@cherokeepatti With how everything is electronic and wireless, they can pretty much get anything they want.

@BrewCityBarfly I am at home most days. Maybe whoever these people want wanted to know what was in the house. They can find out all sorts of things with a walk through… types of books on my shelves, if anyone else lives here, if there is a gun case, what sorts of things I have that they want to find out about
BrewCityBarfly · M
@cherokeepatti Exactly. The other simple thing is if no one answers, break in time.

@BrewCityBarfly a lot of retired people live around here. My neighbor’s side garage door was getting kicked in and their neighbor heard and called the police but they drove off before getting inside. Police were a minute too late responding

@cherokeepatti That's scary and another reason you're right to be cautious. I've been lucky the past 20 years or so to live in very low crime areas. Even so, I hear stories of break ins, cars being stolen, catalytic converters, etc. in near areas. I just hope they go and pick on the newer subdivisions north and south of me with the big houses before they come here. IOW pick on the rich people, not us poor folk living in 50's era houses.

@BrewCityBarfly They’ll pick anyone’s house especially if they believe you don’t have a security cam. Most of those rich neighborhood’s have security cams all over.
