Mouth washed out with soap

Yes soap tastes horrible :(

I remember my older brother getting this once, when he thought it was clever to use bad language.

Our parents warned him that he would get his mouth washed out if he persisted. But he carried on and he did get his mouth washed out with soap.

Arguably 12 hard smacks on the bare bum would have been a more straightforward way of dealing with this, but our parents were not really spankers, but they did wash his mouth out.

He had to sit in a chair with my dad holding his hands. My mum brought a bowl of warm water and a piece of soap to him. She then proceeded to rub the piece of damp soap on his lips, teeth, gums and the inside of his mouth.

He had to remain seated for 5 minutes to experience the soapy taste afterwards. Then he was given water to rinse his mouth out and allowed to brush his teeth.

It did actually correct his misbehaviour, because he never used bad language again.

My mom did it once when my friend and I were outside having a swear word competition.
My dad, once when my sister and I got in trouble for spitting on each other.

I had this happen growing up and now if warrented..

My mom did that to me. But the soap tasted better than her cooking!

What about a deaf/mute person who gives the middle finger or fingerspells swearwords, do they get their hands washed as punishment?
