I have known a couple of women who refused to cook anything. They were too lazy to open up a can and reheat the food. I don’t know how they each got by with that for decades.

@cherokeepatti Not even reheat something or like a microwave entree?

@cherokeepatti
Now that’s depressing.

@Coralmist not even that. She came right out and said that she had never cooked and never would. The one I worked with would get breakfast at the small restaurant near our work area on campus. She’d go buy a sandwich for lunch if she couldn’t find anyone to take her to another restaurant. Too lazy to slap some lunchmeat between a couple slices of bread. Married an older man who spoiled her. If she went to one our potluck lunches she would buy a bag of chips or a 2-liter bottle of pop to share. Her husband got sick and died right before she retired. She had also never learned to drive. Didn’t have enough money to buy premade foods or go to restaurants all of that. Came back for a visit and said she was looking for a job. The nearest place to work was a Braum’s restaurant and she mentioned that. 😂 Imagine working at a restaurant when you’ve never even made a sandwich. She would have been sitting pretty after her husband died if she had only learned to cook. I imagine all of their money was going for meals outside.

@cherokeepatti I mean I am no chef but I will make some grilled chicken or hamburger with sauce sauteed and pour over pasta. Its not too elaborate and only took 10 mins to cook. I buy a couple frozen entrees too if I am tired. The Stouffers brand turkey n sweet potato Lean Cuisine is yummy. Wow so she said I will never cook...or a sandwich????

@mindstruggle Yes it is. Everyone men and women both should be able to at least put together a simple meal and have at least 10 options for dinner to choose from. She wasn’t the other one like this. My dentist’s wife was working as his aid and told me she refused to cook. They had 2 children too. She told me after they bought another home and was complaining on how high their electric bill was compared to the other home. I mentioned cooking and she said she never cooked and refused to. Here her husband was making good money and having to go out for meals every day. That’s a huge amount of money for a family to do it day in and day out. They are divorced now. I bet nobody else will spoil her that way. I saw him in the grocery store about a year later with a new lady and they were buying food, I bet she was a good cook.

@Coralmist Not even a lunchmeat sandwich. She would buy sandwiches at lunch at a little store/restaurant next to where we worked if nobody would take her somewhere to get lunch. You don’t have to be a fancy cook to get by with meals. Just go to the store and get basics and put together what you like to eat. There are hundreds of ways to fix simple meals.

@cherokeepatti Exactly!! And you save money as a fact. Whether wealthy or not. I don't really have a passion to cook but I don't mind whippingg up a nice omelette or a chicken skillet with veggies. It really takes so little time! Do I do fancy steaks or lamb or elaborate meals no..but you're right , there is so much to make and its really simple and tastes great. I couldn't believe the sandwich part. 🤔

@Coralmist Some kind of crap attitude with that woman. Her mother was from Lebanon and I asked her if she was a good cook. And she said “Oh yeah that food is good.” I asked if she cooked any of it. Then that’s when she said she had never cooked anything and refused to do it. Her sister worked in the cafeteria at the university. The thing about cooking at home is that you can buy better ingredients and cook from scratch. All these restaurants and fast food places are in it for a profit and they don’t buy the best quality and it’s full of crap chemicals like MSG too. You can buy good ingredients and make 3-4 more food for the same money you paid for a restaurant meal. With crockpots and rice cookers it’s so much easier to cook and you don’t have to watch the food every minute either.

@cherokeepatti I knew a few people that can't cook at all. There kitchen look like it was never used. They had nothing in the fridge that I remember.

@cherokeepatti When you're only eating for yourself it doesn't really save you any money. It sometimes even cost more than taking out.

@ArtieKat Once I factor in ingredients and the cost to run the electric stove the savings aren't really there over just grabbing a sub or burger on special. then wastage factors in too because a lot of the shit can't be eaten fast enough unless I want to eat the same bundle of carrots(as an example) for days on end. Same with lunch meat that only stays good for a few days. Between gas, food price, utilities cost, and a little bit of expectable waste it doesn't add up to any real savings for one person in my experience. Plus. it's not enjoyable cooking for one at all.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@ArtieKat Not a fan of that. It doesn’t taste the same to me.

@mindstruggle I guess it depends on what you eat and how much but I could eat well on less than $5 a day.
