Most people are not seeking for advice unless they ask outright. I find most people need someone to relate to how they are feeling or what they are going through. The best way, I have found in indirectly giving or receiving advice is to share your own personal experiences and how you got through something difficult. Share what has helped you. Never tell someone what they should do, because you're not walking in their shoes. Try to be empathetic and compassionate rather than opinionated. Sometimes just listening is what a person really needs.
