I think people's knowledge depends on where their interests lie. If someone's mind is occupied mostly by boobs, cars, beer, soap operas and tide pods, then they won't know much beyond that.
Once when I told someone I was from South Africa they then asked me, "But what is the name of the country ?" ☺

@Carver She´s pitching tea now, did you know ? LOL !!! Offering a coupon with a 15% discount 😄
Carver · 31-35, F
@Underconstruction I did not. Lol!

Good question. I was an indifferent student who daydreamed half the time and studied as little as possible, yet I was never that uniformed. Not sure why others have a problem getting this stuff right.
HerKing · 61-69, M
Why? Because they're woefully ignorant of anything beyond their front door.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
Ignorance, I suppose. It's sad, isn't it, but I'm not sure what else it could be.
PinkMoon · 26-30, F
I'm from South Africa so I'm exempt from this post 😋

Modern American education is to not over burden the poor little dumb shits! lol
SW-User
There not sure of there geography. 😒
hlpflwthat · M
@SW-User Or their grammar. I've never seen someone get it wrong twice in one sentence.
SW-User
@hlpflwthat That was sort of the point of the post, well spotted.
SW-User
Simple ignorance of Geography. Never opened a map perhaps.
SW-User
Most who think africa is a country are from America
😳 Huh? Who are these intelligent people? 🤓
SW-User
Maybe one in five thousand is that ignorant.
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
Poor education sadly
HerKing · 61-69, M
@Dlrannie I read a heartbreaking article a couple of days ago about a teacher who is leaving teaching after only a few years in the job. She and the rest of the teachers in her state have to supply the class resources at their own expense! If that wasn't bad enough, the little darlings destroy it with little regard, and when the 'parents' of these offspring are informed, they come to school and verbally abuse and assault the teachers for having the temerity to take their spawn to task over their misbehavior. Who the hell would go into teaching?
SW-User
Geographical mismatch.....
SW-User
Not arguing, but does it matter?
I'm interested. I understand that people aren't as educated as some of us think they should be, but does it really matter?

@Ynotisay Yeah, It would appear to be a mindset.
Again, to all, I'm just asking questions to spark discussion. No hard feelings anywhere. :) Hope you guys are having a good day.

@SW-User I doubt anyone not wanting to know a little basic geography is unlikely to be curious about any given topic. Including contraception, health, nutrition, learning skills to get a good job where they will be in a position to pay taxes....You get my drift?
SW-User
@HerKing I have a few good friends who get continents and nations confused on the regular but they are very highly succesful people in my opinion; even people I look up to.
They're not very politically involved, no, not social warriors to bring about change at a global scale, but they are some of the best people I know. They planned their families, they eat well, they have better jobs than I will probably ever have, and they pay their taxes. They don't have multimillion dollar homes, no, but they have good homes for their families.
I suppose my argument would be that fluency in a particular field of basic education would not be a valid judge of character or intelligence.
