Do everything. Check out every organization, club and such that you think you might have an interest in. Go to the sports ball games. Go to parties. Try everything you can.
But do all this after you've done your studying and class work. That's the primary reason you're there.

Study hard the first semester and get good grades. Go see your professors during office hours. Party sparingly. By the second semester you will look around and see what happened to others who didn’t do what you did.
