Not really. I guess I should though.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
I have avoided it like the plague and have it disabled where I can. However, I have recently been introduced to AI as a tool for enhancing and changing images and I’ve had a bit of fun playing around with that. Seeing myself when I was much younger actually ‘moving’ the way the AI thinks I would have has been amusing. I’ve even animated a mannequin in a railway museum with one of the programs. So far, I can’t think of a serious use for it.
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
I've been using ChatGPT for about 8 or 9 months now and it is amazing.
I use it for making YouTube content and building a plasma jet propulsion engine, programing games and making Android apps.
It is really good for coding stuff.
Python, Java... Powershell stuff.
Oh and it is fun as hell to chat with. LOL

@Dainbramadge this
@Dainbramadge what's the best way to get started with it?
Dainbramadge · 56-60, M
@sstronaut Depends on what your looking for.
First, the more you chat with it the more personalized it will become.
Mine calls me bro and swears. LOL
Just go to the web site and chat with it. It has a memory of your chats and will get to know you.

No, I'm learning how to recognize it so I can avoid it though.

@NerdyPotato The "know your enemy" approach.
That's hard no. The world doesn't even remotely need AI. We don't need AI any more than we need nuclear weapons. But at least nukes cannot reproduce themselves.
too many people seem to be completely oblivious to all of the negatives AI is already causing the world right now, never mind down the road when it will be the existential threat to humanity that literal geniuses such as Stephen Hawking have always warned, before it was right here in our face on a daily basis
Instead, it is being normalized by people who don't know any better (or in some cases do but nevertheless don't give AF), including right here on SW where people routinely share images they generated, routinely share AI music videos from YouTube, routinely share their latest escapades with ChatGPT, all the while acting as though it is fun or cool. Meanwhile AI data centers are already causing energy and water crises right now, never mind livability issues for people living near them, and the collective use of AI just like people here on SW do only encourages these greedy companies to keep on destroying the planet, never mind jobs and intellectual property.
AI is just the latest (and perhaps the final) example of how foolish humanity can truly be.
I've stopped bothering to post legit articles about this for educational purposes, since most here obviously don't care, but here's still a few:

I understand your concerns about the amount of energy used in AI generation, but I find that the same arguments I used for mobile/cell phones and computers seems to be very similar to the ones used about AI. As with all new technology, as long as humans remain in control (I know that's up for discussion) as yet I am not concerned that it's going to lead to the end of civilisation as we know it. There is also a discussion to be had of whether civilisation as we know it is worth keeping.

I use it for my personal projects, both in making silly little meme videos, and projects that mean more to me.
Sure, I'd prefer to learn how to animate properly, and I eventually will, but I feel AI should not be shunned as one of many tools in an artist's toolbox.

I'm learning how to do as many things by hand as possible in readiness for when the bottom drops out of the whole thing and the economy crashes and burns.
And if it doesn't at least I've learned how to knit and not get my fingers caught in a typewriter

Sure am! I disabled AI on my laptop.

Yes I use chat gpt and help me write on every email or message I send

It's a ever evolving process. The designers keep on changing it themselves.
You can't jailbreak it like you use to be able to even. 😈

@JoyfulSilence they probably do because I've rarely seen a borderline one. But that's probably done manually.
JoyfulSilence · 51-55, M
@JoyfulSilence it must be someone from the team, or perhaps a team effort. And who knows? I hope not though. AI will need to get a whole lot better and more efficient before it gets useful though.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Nope.

I never used it before
Not really 😕
Yes, I am using an LLM to build my own personal agent

Use very little.

AI is pretty useful for drafting your ideas.
FreddieUK · 70-79, M
@Alyosha if the AI is contributing to your ideas (as in drafting) it could be that they are adding, changing, modifying what you started out with. Hence the question. If I come up with an idea and I put it to 2 or three other people for their input, what comes out at the other end is a collaboration.
