Do you think arguing is constructive or not?

Arguing is a great way to learn as long as that is a discussion and not just a row for the sake of making points to make you feel better. Personally, I never use bad language even top make a passionate case, but sometimes irony and sarcasm help to point up what I see as absurdities in a position.

I came on SW (partly) to hear how other people justified their very different perspectives about things, but for some, they can't put together a coherent response when the first question is put to them. Pity.
I think it depends the context and who's listening and who's actually listening...

Like fighting politics seems to go absolutely no where.

Fighting in from the kids, seems to mostly just hurt the kids.

But I've also seen some spirited work debates, both really help, and really hurt, things.

I've also seen people stay quiet and get walked all over ..

And people that have spoken up and it changed everything for the positive.

It can be, if people stick to the topic and aim for clear debate.
Healthy argument is paramount to maintaining any sort relationship and finding solutions to difficult problems.
Unfortunately most of us don't know how argue properly, and we get sarcastic insultive and personal.
NOS4R2 · 41-45
@Ferise1 if you say so, sure.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@NOS4R2 lol youre precisely one of those who won’t change their mind. You ARE the people you criticize 😂
NOS4R2 · 41-45
@Ferise1 ok.

I mean, if it's like contentious, then nah, no point in it.

But if it's just to explore different perspectives, or play devils advocate for the sake of challenge what you know and believe and it's done so in a pretty chill manner, then sure...

(Tbf tho, on the internet, it's usually contentious) 😶

@Ferise1 helps me gain insight and understanding into how they tick.

Sorta like looking under the hood of a car and knowing how things work.

It kinda helps in the long run because the more you know then the more you can adapt ways to get through to them.

It's not just about planting a seed, it's about knowing how to garden
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@Fishy so you do engage with them
Fishy · 36-40, F
@Ferise1 yeah occasionally, just not when they're being contentious 😶
Matt85 · 36-40, M
a prefer a calm debate
dishonesty and exageration is rife in most arguments
Fishy · 36-40, F
@Matt85 those are rare, fun, but rare 😂
RisingMorningStar7 · 36-40, M
The art of dialogue, I picture two people discussing or sharing ideas.

Depends with who and over what 🤷🏻

@Ferric67 never underestimate the power of planting a seed. And when other people see you, they will be inspired to do the same 😊
Ferric67 · M
@Ferise1 I thrive in planting seeds
I make sure that I water them too

Most people eventually forget where that thought came from
I avoid ALL arguments now. There's no more time for that.
Nimbus · M
Certainly not on SW ;)
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@Nimbus why would it be any different?
Nimbus · M
@Ferise1 Just look at the politics section on SW for that as any constructive arguing only leads to abuse and people blocking each other.
It is toxic.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@Nimbus I know you can’t get very far, but you still must push your ideas forward and hope to plant a seed
Gibbon · 70-79, M
It's a waste of time. For the past 4 years I've failed to get the left to recognize how insane they have become. They use the same failing tactics over and over again.
They don't believe what Einstein said about that.

@Gibbon no, more like you could change theirs
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Ferise1 I think you missed the message that effort has failed. They still can't figure out for themselves why they got their a$$ kicked and will continue to especially now allowing the extra insane anti-American squad become center of the left.

It’s something.. it’s more a hostile conversation style but at least they are conversing but probably not even listening so maybe not
tiltawhirl · 36-40, F
Not at all. Most of the time you aren’t going to be changing anyone’s mind.
tiltawhirl · 36-40, F
@Ferise1 I mean this is just from my personal experience but I’ve never convinced anyone of anything by arguing over it. And I’ve never been convinced by anyone either.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@tiltawhirl just because they stopped responding doesn’t mean you haven’t planted a seed
And I’ve changed my mind many times based on new information
tiltawhirl · 36-40, F
@Ferise1 yea I guess you are right.
No progress without logical argument!
Americans don't need to argue. They're force based and will never.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
@Roundandroundwego thank you!

Waste of time. Plus it is just not real entertaining after the first couple minutes.
