Can you help me decide dear Sweeps

I need a root canal soon. Problem is my dentist said Bec I get jaw pain (from TMJ night clenching) and can't keep mouth too wide for an hour, PLUS a misaligned jaw that can sometimes trigger vertigo if the jaw joint has pain, to look into sedation. Most places offer three types,
A. Nitrous oxide...you can drive home after, but a few people said it made them feel awful after.

B. Oral sedation. Similar to a Valium. I've never tried Valium. You need a ride home

C. IV sedation. You are very sleepy but can hear the doctor still. Need a ride home.

D. Try without sedation but ask for breaks, use ice pack and hope to God it goes ok.

In order though for me to get a ride it would be my psycopath manic obnoxious and cruel mother. I was once in a car crash and she screamed bloody murder at me to pick me up, Bec she ' needed dinner. ' 😢
I will do ANYTHING to avoid her giving a ride.
Which would you choose from A to D??

Stop putting it off! Root canals can get infected and kill you! Get it DONE!

@Muthafukajones I'm not putting it off, I'm weighing out how to do this with two chronic issues of my face and mouth. Making calls daily to various places. Unfortunately most don't take my insurance..so I might have to travel a bit further .. or go with my regular endodontist who doesn't offer sedation, and bring ice packs and ask for breaks, hoping it's ok. 🙁

Oh I’m sorry I didn’t mean to be presumptuous.
I would probably go for the nitrous but I think the IV is not a bad idea either. Or the oral sedation. I would not recommend going without a form of sedation. I have been under IV sedation for lumbar spine injections for pain relief and diagnostic purposes and I felt very low and sad afterwards because of the depressant effects of the medication. I understand now that it is a fairly common reaction to anesthesia. I cried when a nurse asked me about my bf because I didn’t have one at the time but she had no way of knowing that and was just trying to make small talk.

use a better dentist who can do it in 30 minutes

My dentist puts a wedge in my mouth to keep it open.

@MrBrownstone only issue is it will hurt my jaw remaining open in any manner. And I'm not sure if it will set off vertigo, from the feeling of the drilling plus jaw pain. And you have to remain very still. So it's an issue. But getting sedated means getting a ride home from my mom..you can't drive after. She's horrid and screams in the car, is explosive and swerves..it's dangerous. It's just a bad angle any way I look at this root canal 😢

@Baybreeze When I had a wisdom tooth removed. The dentist put a cloth over my eyes and I wore headphones and listened to music.

I know it's uncomfortable, exhausting, and probably not how you envisioned spending your day.

I wont even attempt "knowing how you feel" or advice for I've never had that procedure.

I hope you find comfort in knowing that even the unpleasant moments are temporary. Hang in there, be gentle with yourself, and remember that sometimes a little discomfort is simply the price of getting back to feeling like yourself.

Sending you strength, compassion, and a little extra courage.

Some form of sedation and take an Uber or a cab 🚕 home.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@GoldnJulz I can't afford an Uber unfortunately. Would you go for the nitrous even though a few said they felt awful after? But, teo said they felt ok after..
