I ate low carb/almost keto for years. I tried fasting after seeing it recommending in multiple YouTube videos posted by doctors. I ate breakfast and dinner and only a protein bar for lunch. My blood sugar is almost completely under control now.

@theoldschoola good for you

Well here's a few sites, from my understanding you can because keto reduces the amount of insulin you need but you should carefully plan it. I'm not a doctor though so this is just opinion.
But I'd say the best you can do is read up on it, they do have several books. The first one is about type two and the second is type one. Not really sure if it matters or not so you night want to look that up.
I edited this to say that you should check with your doctor on this but if you do start the keto diet, get some electrolytes too you'll need it. If they don't interfere with medication of course.

@SatanBurger yes sure, thank you for your valuable advice
That's not a good thing . You can get really sick from that. The keto diet isn't for everyone...but I would be very careful and get some guidance from a nutritionist first

@Dhritii ask your doctor to give you one . They need to determine if you are type 1 or type 2 . To properly treat it . Quite ofter people are misdiagnosed as type 2 who are type 1 and this can lead to years of frustration and possibly getting very sick . I speak from experience.

It’s good short-term to get a very high blood sugar level down. I know someone whose blood sugar was over 700 and told him about the keto diet. He watched the videos and in 6 weeks his blood sugar was down to a healthy level. He gradually introduced fruit and other carbs.
Dhritii · 22-25, F
@cherokeepatti yes in low amounts and complex carbs
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Dhritii the fiber in fruits and veggies helps keep blood sugar stable. So good not to consume fruit juice but eat whole fruit instead.

@cherokeepatti yes !!

Yes but probably not long term.. maybe short term . My sister was in ketoacidosis this year and it requires hospital stay... have you gone in to get on an IV? It's very important, as doctors will bring down the sugars for you, in a controlled setting. It will have a good amount of insulin per hour in the drip, plus a small amount of sugar as to not crash too low.
My sister was advised basically low carbs, and protein at each meal ...once off the IV. (I believe 30 carb per meal was ok, after the IV treatment).

@Dhritii Ok, talk to the nurses or doctor who you saw, even if you need to on the phone. They will give you a general plan. I think keto can be too extreme in some cases because we do need some carbs in a day. And my sister can typically have 25 or 30 at a meal..which I think is more than even keto. So just check with them and you'll have a good idea.

Download CarbManager app to help keep track of what do eat and track your carbs.
Dhritii · 22-25, F
@MrBrownstone sure
Bowenw · 61-69, M
I believe it is, but check with your doctor before starting on it.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Bowenw It definitely is.
mindless · M
That's a question best answered by a doctor or dietitian
I believe so, but ask someone whom actually knows so.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
Yes. Meat and eggs and nuts.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
Wait, you have ketoacidosis? Isn't that fatal within, like, a few hours without treatment?
Dhritii · 22-25, F
@LordShadowfire yes i had near death experience
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Dhritii That's horrible. I had a housemate for a while who would periodically go into KA, and we'd always have to take him to the ER for it.
