My guess is that it'll be a lesser version of the first lockdown, and wholly inadequate.
During the pandemic of 1918 newspapers stopped talking about the virus because it was so out of control, it'd just stir up public unrest (in fact that's why they started calling it the Spanish Flu, because Spain was one of the only countries where people could get information on the figures). I think the same thing is about happen, an overwhelmed hospital system, a horrific number of dead, and the official response will be to just ignore it and wait till the wildfire burns itself out.

@plungesponge Another big part of the problem was that this was going on during WWI and those in charge of the country did not want any discouragement from men enlisting. They wanted the war bond parades to go on in major cities which drew huge crowds. The number of exposed was staggering and the death rate was horrific. It's terrible the government could have save many lives had they simply told the truth of what was happening before millions died.

@Peapod Yes, at some morbid point, it actually makes sense to keep the public in the dark than admit they are in an out of control natural disaster.
Take lockdowns for instance, if governors really did announce harsh measures again, there'd be armed protests immediately which would just spread the virus more. At some point, all the officials are as powerless to change this as anyone else.

@ProfessorPlum77 well it would be not the case whether they could cope with another lockdown the choice would simply not there

I don't think it's If it's When another wave of this virus hits us and we will have to handle it we should buy top graded face masks and visors they should be sold on our high streets we may as well accept it it's going to be a long time before we can live normally again five years maybe more.
