Tell me what you know, please?

My daughter spent a week in Puerta Vallarta, Mexico. Her stepdaughter got sick there. A friend who met them there took sick after arriving home day before yesterday. Now my daughter is ill too. They think it’s dengue, “but no fever.” Her stepdaughter was sick for three days and it appears her friend is on about the same schedule.

You know anything about Dengue?

Have they seen a doctor? You can have dengue without getting a fever. They need to get checked. I hope they are ok
@Jenny1234 I’m trying to chase them to a doctor. Trouble is, everybody’s tired of doctors and tests.

I know only what I've read. The first time you get it the symptoms are often mild or even undetectable. The second time can be awful (dengue is sometimes called breakbone fever due to the pain). There are 4 different strains of dengue. But I imagine you've read those things yourself. I've been paying attention to what I read about dengue because I'm considering visiting an area that has a lot of it. I hope your daughter has a short mild case.
@Poppies Thank you, Poppies. I guess it comes down to balancing the joy of travel against how sick one gets.
All I can tell you is that I picked up a case of dengue when I was living in the Philippines. I think I actually got it during a trip to Thailand because the mosquitos were attacking me there. Sickest I have ever been!

I'm sure there is some kind of test for it now.

I would suggest a doctor's visit
@Threepio Thanks. I will certainly pass that on! ❤️

@Threepio there is.
@Threepio I read the first infection is usually mild, but subsequent bouts get worse and worse, to the point they call it “break bone disease” because it’s so painful.

How are they all now?
@Poppies Thank you for thinking of us. The visiting friend with kids are all fine. My daughter is slightly better but still miserable. Her husband has thus far dodged the bullet, but his daughter was in Seattle with her grandparents when she tested positive and now her dad has set out from New Mexico to the Pacific northwest to fetch her. (24 hours roundtrip plus nap time).

Two of their other friends have tested positive.

BUT, they tested neg for dengue.

I think that covers it.

I've not had dengue but it's common in singapore. It's a Mosquito borne viral fever: High temp, headaches, nausea and body cramps. Severe cases can lead to haemorrhage and can be fatal.

No vaccine for ir as yet
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@Longpatrol detectable by a blood test due to low white cell count
@Longpatrol Thank you!
