And with cigarettes, I thought back then it was a lot less strict? Even in the early 80's, us kids could buy cigarettes for our parents but IIRC we needed a note.

Our parents were up in arms when the law started enforcing "must be 18".

@HoochieTheClown I grew up in California. I had to use cigarette machines to buy them. You couldn't buy them in the stores. Otherwise mom would have had me buy them for my father for Christmas. 🤣

My parents weren't as strict as my conservative half brother and his wife in multiple ways.

@beermeplease My older brother had a good friend named Jeff who bore a resemblance to that photo. He is older than us, but I always liked when he was around cause he was one of the few "cool" grown-ups that I knew.
