Addiction is a crisis of disconnection. I've been addicted to the only addiction there is; seeking, finding and practicing whatever I can find that replaces healthy connection. People can use anything in an addictive way, so long as it does the job of killing the pain of not being bonded to the love they never received. ALL expressions of addiction are pain killers. My most predominant expression of addiction is, and always has been, food, especially sweets. It, better than anything, fills that hole in my soul that was never filled with the love connection we're all built to have.
