It is seen as an activity for losers because of the culture around it.
Look at the kind of people who visit headshops. Its not exactly an activity of successful people.
What comes to mind when people hear the word pothead? It's not a lawyer, a doctor, or Elon Musk (although he does smoke its not a personality trait like most people make it)
@NativePortlander1970 It doesnt matter. People put it in the same category as drinking and smoking cigarettes. Its actually viewed as worse because its illegal. You will have to convince the public not me.
Does it actually scare people? For me I just hate second hand smoke regardless of what it is. To each their own who want to do it. I drink. Same difference. But unless I spill on someone they are not getting 2nd
@BearDownChicago Until they're busted and given a summons to appear in court after they're booked. I have a friend in Northern California where there's a weekly arrest report in the local newspaper, he tells me at least 80% of them are for public imbibing.
Smoked, the effects on the cardiovascular system are not benign. While maybe unscientific sampling, among habitual users I’ve been around, their lives seem to revolve around getting high and staying high.
@RedBaron The question wasn’t about the legality of its use nor whether it is more or less benign than alcohol. It was specifically about people’s fear of it. I gave my perception.

@iamnikki No, that's why you buy ONLY from those you know that WON'T lace it. It's ALSO why I reluctantly support legalization of Cannabis, so it can be SAFELY sold in dispensaries that are closely monitored by state regulatory agencies. I say reluctantly because those states that legalized recreational threw medical card patients under the bus.

Not everyone has your best interest in mind, even if they know you. There is no way to know for certain that your buddy that you've known since 3rd grade won't lace your weed in attempts to get you hooked on XYZ drug. I'm done with this.
Smoking anything is a hideous insult to your lungs and throat. Cannabis edibles or oil is probably not very harmful but inhaling tar-laden smoke is an awful idea.
@chickiegirl95 Even my Doc said that I need ro stop smoking cigarettes...But he said no worries about smoking weed.....So I went from 2 packs a day down to like 2 or 3 cigarettes a day....How did I do it you ask?Everytime I had an urge for a cigarette I just hit my bowl and that took care of my urge for a smoke.... And I just had a heart attack in October but I'm still smoking weed!!!
