I finally have decided to get motivated and start beginning to care for my physical health. I have weighed too much for too long. So yesterday I started weight watchers to help me in the process.

I need to lose quite a bit of weight. I have diabetes, so weight loss with more exercise should help get that more under control.

Anyway if anybody else here is in the same process, I've joined that journey. If you used Weight Watchers has it been a positive experience?

My sister didn’t join Weight Watchers but someone shared the diet plan with her when she was in high school and she lost quite a bit of weight. It has changed since then. Eating a candy bar doesn’t give nutrition and sugar creates hunger hormones so in the end that type of diet will fail. They taught us in school when I was young that a “calorie is a calorie regardless of what you eat. And if you eat too many calories you will gain weight.” Even doctors would say this when discussing weight loss. But now they are finding out this isn’t true. Calories from certain foods will help your metabolism burn more fat from your body, proteins and fats especially and high-fiber low-carb veggies will help too. Also foods high in resistance starches will help, you have to know how to prepare each food properly though for that, it varies depending on what type of food it is.

Best of luck. And get ready for all the people who have been criticizing you over your weight to offer you calorie rich foods that are not on the WW plan and insist you eat them.

@greenmountaingal yes saboteurs

@cherokeepatti And often the very same people who have told you to lose the excess weight!

good luck. i tried weight watchers before (not the group but following their diet from books) i ate a lot of salty soup and developed high blood pressure so do be careful as they do recommend a lot of soup or at least used to.

I've used the high protein low carb stuff before, but smaller portions more times per day, and avoidance of the obvious enemies + exercise is really the only way to keep it off. The high protein low carb works, but it conditions your metabolism to put the weight back on real fast!

@Oberon1 If it's on the right side, potassium may help. If it's on the left, sodium may help.

@AbbeyRhode A herniated disc in my lower back has caused excruciating pain in my right leg from the soles of my feet to my hip. My ankles and knee were already bad, so they are a bonus!
AbbeyRhode · F
@Oberon1 Ouch! My Mom has several bad discs, and I know it's been awful for her. I've read that ginger may offer a bit of relief, and there are stretches that are supposed to help, but it's easier said than done when one is in pain.
Sounds like spot the fatty... 🤔

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Its a support group that really should change their name.
Fluffybull · F
Statistically, they don't have a good success rate. One study (in the UK) found that only 8% of members managed to get to target weight and keep it off after 5 years.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@Fluffybull that’s just buffoonery.
Fluffybull · F
@Ambroseguy80 Yes, it's not learning about food or educating yourself to change your habits long-term.
Ambroseguy80 · 51-55, M
@Fluffybull well…. Nobody at WW ever told me it was okay to eat a Mars bar diet, she adopted that all her own. I would think that if she truly followed the point system, she would not have been able to eat so many chocolate bars. On the other hand, I did feel that the point system was flawed in many respects…. It doesn’t really translate to guaranteed weight loss.

A friend of mine used it, and lost a lot of weight.
The most important thing is to not cheat.
Follow the instructions.
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
@BigBulge I'm definitely going to try my best.
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
Nope. I am trying to lose weight just by myself. And when I reach the point I cannot do it by myself I may join.
OverTheHill · 56-60, M
@Thevy29 That is great. I wish you well in what you are doing.
if you want to lose weight then dont eat anything that taste good (so i was told)
