Are Brits meant to be passionate about porridge or something?

I was chatting with a group of friends and we were talking about how we eat porridge and I said I break an egg in while I'm cooking mine for extra protein,

And one of my friends who's an old Brit reacted like Italians react when you snap pasta or put pineapple on pizza

Haha uhm, it's been kinda "in" for a while. My Mum and sister eats it all the time.

I used to love porridge to me it was similar to eating rice pudding or semolina pudding except it’s for breakfast. I liked mine with sugar, jam or chocolate but it’s such a hassle and now I just love my toast.

Sounds good to me 🙂 The British can be highly conservative in their dietary habits.

I eat mine with unpasteurised milk, a little honey, and a handful of blueberries. My daughrer eats it plain and it fuels her very active days 🙂

Porridge has been a breakfast favorite of the UK for centuries

I had a bowl this morning - maybe a couple of times a week. I must be honest that I've never tried porridge with anything savoury. I have a cup of oats with a pinch of salt, a cup of semi-skimmed milk and one of water. Microwave for about 2 minutes. If I'm feeling really decadent I may have some double cream on top! ;-)

It may once have been a breakfast favorite in the UK but I don't know hardly anyone in England who eats it now. I can't speak for Scotland, where it was always more of a tradition.

@Angliaboy1 We had a Scottish neighbour when I was a kid who made it as a weird smooth gruel. My sisters and I hated that version!

I love porridge but I wouldn't eat it like the Scots have it with just water and salt. It's not healthy for me, needs milk, cream, brown sugar, sultanas and cinnamon so it's a rare treat lol

My Scottish friend adds salt to his porridge. My mother always added sugar or honey.

I eat oatmeal almost every morning with cinnamon, and brown sugar, I would never think of putting an egg in it.

Can’t stand traditional Scottish Porridge but I do like Congee (Chinese Rice Porridge ) 🙂🙂🐼🥢
