With all the numbers necessary in our lives these days do you feel like a number?

I’m not sure what your feelings are on this matter but it seems we rush about our lives not really thinking about how everything is determined by numbers these days, and we don’t have a choice in this situation. Bank accounts, phones, passports driver’s license, all constructed using numbers instead of who we are.

Obviously, thinking about the frequency of how our names are used is the factor the state and the banks determine which Joe Bloggs you are!

The world is less personal now. Many only want money or power.

And there's the problem - the need for a unique key in every system to make sure the money I move to Joe Bloggs (1) doesn't go to Joe Bloggs (2).

A good period of my career was spent in databases, design, maintaining etc. etc. More than once I wished there was a universal unique identifier for every human on the planet. It would make it all so much easier.

@OldBrit this is the point. The state, banks, etc, wanting to give everyone a number (might as well have a microchip installed really) isnt (much) to control everyone its just to make their bureaucratic obsessions easier.

(Which IMO is all the more reason to resist it almost)

No to be honest I've never really even thought about it. Because no 1 number defines me. The only way i would feel that way is if i were in jail or prison. I just always saw them as necessary. Because there's so many people in the world with the same name for example John Smiths. There has to be ways to differentiate us from one another. I remember my dad being handcuffed at 65 years old because his grandson, my nephew, who was named after him had a warrant for his arrest. I told the idiot officers to check the birthdate 🙄 i was 15 years old and even i had common sense smh

I always think in numbers. They are easier for me to conceptualise than names and reduce error. There are many "Ewas" in the world, but only one me 😊
I have had a couple of jobs where I felt likeca number at some point. Ive ended those relationships shortly after I figured that out.

No cause i don't have a common name.. and therefore feel like an individual unlike everyone else with the same common first and last names ..
Yes, numbers and random passwords are our lives...

Which is why we need to connect in real ways.

A very interesting point.
