With all the numbers necessary in our lives these days do you feel like a number?

I’m not sure what your feelings are on this matter but it seems we rush about our lives not really thinking about how everything is determined by numbers these days, and we don’t have a choice in this situation. Bank accounts, phones, passports driver’s license, all constructed using numbers instead of who we are.

Obviously, thinking about the frequency of how our names are used is the factor the state and the banks determine which Joe Bloggs you are!

And there's the problem - the need for a unique key in every system to make sure the money I move to Joe Bloggs (1) doesn't go to Joe Bloggs (2).

A good period of my career was spent in databases, design, maintaining etc. etc. More than once I wished there was a universal unique identifier for every human on the planet. It would make it all so much easier.

@OldBrit this is the point. The state, banks, etc, wanting to give everyone a number (might as well have a microchip installed really) isnt (much) to control everyone its just to make their bureaucratic obsessions easier.

(Which IMO is all the more reason to resist it almost)
