@Ciindy It's not "false", Snopes cover it better, there's simply no definitive proof because obviously ICE won't admit he was deported because of a meme.

The agency says it's the photo of the guy holding a wooden pipe that triggered the expulsion (as if that's any better), whereas the guy defends it was the meme.
@Ciindy I believe you understand very well why. 🙂

I would not until the current regime is ousted. There have been many people detained at border crossings for long periods- even months. I live a few km from the border and used to be a frequent visitor. Now I am waiting to see if decency will be restored to that place.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@Offthetop they only detain people at the border for long periods of time when you’re not properly documented to come in
@Jake966 this isn't true, they're literally checking people's phones just to see if the person has ever expressed any criticism of Dear Leader, which is all the more ironic since you righwingers are always whining about "free speech"

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/mar/19/trump-musk-french-scientist-detained
As others have said, it depends where you travel. Memphis. Oakland, and New Orleans rank high on the list of dangerous cities but I've never had any issues at any of those cities. They're much safer if you stick to the tourist areas.

I think wherever you go around the world, you'll always find so "no-go" or less desirable areas you wouldn't want to find yourself in. The thing to do is research where you're heading in advance and check out the trouble areas.

Feel free to PM with some places you're thinking of visiting and I'll be happy to let you know if they're good areas and things you can do there. I've been to a fair amount of the US in my years.
ViciDraco · 41-45, M
Most areas are going to be fine. Make sure you keep your travel docs on you.

Bad stuff is going on in the US, it's true. It's worth calling out and paying attention to because it's very important to the people who actually get impacted. But it's not so bad that it affects everyone and not even most people personally.

I feel like we're really bad about risk assessment.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@ViciDraco Just remember that when some sort of attack does occur, the first thing the govt will do is ground the plans. So you won\t be able to escape. Unless you are a member of the terrorists family..😷
SpectralMourning · 41-45, M
I have a coworker that just had family from Russia visit for a month and they did a lot of sightseeing along the east coast while they were here. They had zero problems while visiting.
FreeorLonely · 51-55, F
I just did, no problems whatsoever and made a new friend from South Carolina.
I think it all depends on where you're traveling too, but that's always been the case.
I’m on the fence about it. Leaning towards no even though I’m due to travel there this year.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I really don't know about every place in the USA ,here it seems relatively safe, I live in Michigan, dang cold though
hunkalove · 70-79, M
@Justmeraeagain What if Trump trades Michigan to Denmark for Greenland?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Of course it is. It's like most other civilized countries. We have some no-go zones but most of the US is safe.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Nitedoc Please justify that statement with evidence..😷
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@whowasthatmaskedman I have no reason to try and change your mind. Maybe some other time I'll try to enlighten you a little.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@Nitedoc I eagerly await your attention.😷
Mcmarie90 · 31-35, F
A vast majority of it is safe, especially for a tourist. Stay out of large cities at night and you'll be fine.
diablo · 51-55, M
@Mcmarie90 Exactly! 👏 I always take the advice of the experts if I'm out in a large city at night: stick to popular well-lit areas. Strength in numbers.
BohoBabe · M
Yes, for the most part. I definitely wouldn't go to Minneapolis right now.
ShenaniganFoodie · 36-40, M
I cancelled my cruise late last year, to many port stops I would not have felt safe.

Canada now via Japan
QCDog2659 · 61-69, M
hippyjoe1955 · 70-79, M
Depending on your skin tone...... I won't be going there any time soon. I don't do cultures where the failure to produce your papers can get you arrested. Somehow that goes against the American constitution but then again that has been wildly ignored for decades now. I suspect the US government is captured and dancing to the tune of its new owners.
carpediem · M
Yes, just be careful in blue states. That's where most of the crime is
Minnesota is lovely this time of year
@BizSuitStacy If you are white
Adogslife · 61-69, M
Completely.
EagerDaddy · 46-50, M
I cancelled. It doesn't feel safe, the way they vet you. Besides...it's becoming a fascist dictatorsship with a Gestapo as well.
iwishuwerehere · 61-69, M
Yeah, it’s safe if you stay out of the cities
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
of course. as with any travel, one has to be cognizant of one's surroundings.
GeorgeTBH · 36-40, M
🤷‍♂ i forgot it was a place 😂
GeorgeTBH · 36-40, M
@Nitedoc based on how most people have answered on this post you are wrong 🤷🏻‍♂
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@GeorgeTBH No, I'm not wrong.
GeorgeTBH · 36-40, M
@Nitedoc you keep telling yourself that 🤣
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, F
Yes united states is safe
@smileylovesgaming as long as you hold on to your wallet ...credit card.
I’d personally avoid the blue hair ppl..
Turtlepower · 36-40, M
I think so. No less safe than it had historically been anyways.
Jake966 · 56-60, M
I think it’s fine to travel to the US
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
No

Ask yourself... would you travel to russia?

If yes, then go ahead

Leave your phone and your laptop at home
Nimbus · M
Alaska always seems kind of peaceful.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Nimbus We'll see if that holds when Canada annexes it
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Where are you wanting to go?
Ciindy · 26-30, F
@Gibbon arm pits? 🧐
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Ciindy Yes New York, the city not the state, and California are the most effed up places in our country. Stinky like sweaty arm pits
diablo · 51-55, M
@Ciindy Ahhh....NY to CA by 🚆 or ✈? 🧐
Strictmichael75 · 61-69, M
I would stay away if I were you!
No longer the land of the free!
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
Of course, why do you ask?
chillout17 · 31-35, M
Depends on where you want to go lol but yes its fine.
Pretzel · 70-79, M
relatively

in most cases
Only if you’re NOT scared of ice
MasterLee · 56-60, M
@mysteryespresso why would ice be a danger to tourists? Just illegal aliens.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
Of course. Just avoid liberal cities since they love to riot.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
As long as you dont get off the plane, Yes. And it depends on the colour of your skin. But either way its darned expensive..😷
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
As long as you avoid the gun free zones.
Ciindy · 26-30, F
jackson55 · M
Don’t believe everything you see or hear in the media.
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@jackson55 No, not at all. It's all slanted and screened.
jackson55 · M
@nudistsueaz It’s was so much safer under Biden. 😆
nudistsueaz · 61-69, F
@jackson55 Yeah, right. 😂
badminton · 61-69, MVIP
No. I advise our foreign friends to avoid the U.S. until Trump and his fascist cohorts are out of power.
Thrust · 56-60, M
That’s a silly question. The violent crime rate is as low as it’s ever been
markinkansas · 61-69, M
if you are white . or rich..
Monalisasmith86 · 36-40, F
What you see on tv /media,isnt what you witness in reality
Elessar · 31-35, M
Why the hell would you even want to go there, in this specific historic period?
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Elessar I wonder how long it will be until americans wanting to travel overseas need an exit permit added to their internal passports
TurtlePink · 51-55, M
@Elessar we aren’t that scary 🤣🤣💀
Elessar · 31-35, M
@TurtlePink They're literally kidnapping citizens, let alone what they'll do to a tourist. One that speaks a language that sounds hella similar to Spanish. Plus knowing the IQ of the average republican, they'll see the Italian flag and assume I'm from Mexico lol
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
About as safe as it is to travel to any other imperialist autocracy ruled by a mad king.
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Jake966 Well, having a free press means that I'm often out of step with america's Ministry of Truth.

Fortunately for americans, their king and his mafiosi cabal have encouraged them to adopt Crimestop - the faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought.

In fact, you just used it...
Jake966 · 56-60, M
@newjaninev2 you must be talking about the wrong country because we have a president not a king
newjaninev2 · 56-60, F
@Jake966 No longer. After 250 years america is once again ruled by a mad king.

You're gonna need a bigger revolution
