You do whatever will buy you votes.
A general problem in democratic societies.

@helenS it has certainly become that in the US. SCOTUS decisions, e.b., Citizens United, unleashed the power of big Mooney, with no transparency.

@samueltyler2 In America, limiting campaign spending would be a good first step. It's incredible how much money is spent on buying votes.

@helenS enough to feed many third world countries. Imagine using those fund in the places people are fleeing as immigrants to the US!

Yeah this morning was PEAK conservatives. I'm very contrite about drinking champagne while I tanked the economy while my friends placed bets on how bad it would get.

Or when things go wrong, you brush it aside as a presentational error or people not appreciating how brilliant your masterplan is 😕

I think leaving the EU has left a vacuum, the hole is the experience what is needed to run a country with out the guidance and the direction from the EU. Not easy to replace.

@Justenjoyit I saw the EU, whatever its faults, as something akin to an ideal to aim for : an end to inter-European wars, a federation where richer states would help poorer, etc.. I saw myself as European first, Irish or British second. This was taken away by false alarms and claims that the economy would boom by breaking from Europe. I think those responsible for such stories should have to account in some way for the inaccuracies.
