TV star turned political freedom fighter is something we've seen before and many in the west are suspicious of how that works.
There are questions over his financial wealth. By comparison to many Ukrainians Zelensky is a multi millionaire contrasting with the fact most Ukrainian people are on an average salary of about $625 a month. Make of that what you will.
Ukraine in general is very suspicious of it's leaders and trust is of a premium. Doesn't help then that Zelensky, as is tradition, makes promises of better times ahead without really delivering on them.
Although part of that is down to constant expectation of better from the populace.
Although to Zelensky's credit he does seem to have learned from the errors of Yuschenko's Presidency. Which exposed massive syphoning of the country's money.
Although one of his campaign promises was to go after those very same people and he has yet to do so,
There are suspicions of corruption at certain levels of government, both at home and across Europe.
One of the reasons perhaps they were denied entry to the E:U. prior to war breaking out.
