Can Russia's economy recover from the massive depths it's fallen?

Bladey · M
Russia's economy is booming. The Ruble is steadily climbing. The biggest mistake was sanctions. At the moment all Russia's billionaires have no place else but to plaugh their ever-growing riches back into their own country and as a result infrastructure is expanding, buildings are erected all over the country, and massive contracts are in progress. Don't let the mainstream media fool you. Russia is better off now than it was before. The countries that are really suffering are counties like the US and others in Europe who wants an for-ever war in the Ukraine.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
@Bladey With high interest rates and no place to sell its main product, oil,for rubels. I highly doubt it. The population is in decline. The brightest workers have fled. It is technologically crippled. China is gradually overtaking the eastern end of the country and Russia has no way to stop it. It has lost it's Black Sea fleet and will never be a trading partner with the West until.it undergoes democratic reform.
Bladey · M
@Tastyfrzz So it seemed. But Russia started trading in Africa (Brics) and it still has sufficient resources to go for a number of years before it gets into serious trouble. Europe and the US is not in such a favorite position currently
Tracos · 51-55, M
Eventually, but I seriously hope they fall a lot further if they don't give up their occupation of Ukraine
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@Tracos Impossible. As they say, "He's dug a hole too deep." I do not know if there's a plan in place for the future.
Tracos · 51-55, M
@RageAgainstTheMachine I hope with Putin in a shallow grave
SW-User
Well hopefully not 😅
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@SW-User Not particularly. This is no longer a conversation. You have become flippant and sarcastic. I have no time for that.
SW-User
@RageAgainstTheMachine I was trying to lighten the mood lol.
SW-User
@RageAgainstTheMachine I feel like I should one day make a video for all you people who think in these ways here on Similar World, interviewing refugees. You would have a much better understanding of both the situation and mentality, if you could only experience it for yourselves. I am trying to be nice while writing all these replies, and sarcasm is a very typical humor in both Ukraine and Russia, so the fact that you react to it this way to it tells me that you really have no clue about the Russian mentality. Of course you can reply or not reply, what I said was that I don't want to discuss a mentality that I know, which you don't know, with you. Surely you understand why that seems pointless to me? But you can choose to believe what I've already told you, or to brush it under the rug and instead listen to other people who knows as little as yourself about this. I can easily tell from your reaction that you're neither Russian or Ukrainian.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
The Russian people have experience nothing but an Orwelian nightmare their entire lives. In my opinion, the propaganda machine has drilled ideas into them that will be very difficult to change. To re-educate them would be hopeless. They'll just gravitate back to what they know. Better that it break up into smaller countries or be absorbed by the countries around it.
Ynotisay · M
Not on the current course. Which means not as long as Putin is in charge. Too many countries and too many sanctions. The people will continue suffer as long as he's there.
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@Ynotisay We can only hope his successor isn't as bad or worse. There's no guarantee the next will be against the war.
Ynotisay · M
@RageAgainstTheMachine It's a good point. If they 'hire' from within there's a chance of that. It's who he's surrounded himself with. But I'm not sure that's what would go down if Putin fell out of building to his death. Like so many others. Russians are getting wise. We'll see.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
No, it never will. Most of the wealth leaves the country through the oligarchs and there has been massive brain drain since Putin invaded Ukraine.
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@Bumbles The USSR crumbled and was rebuilt. Can it not happen again?
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@RageAgainstTheMachine The Soviet Union didn’t have a free market economy to rebuild. Russia had so much going for it. They should have a huge economy, but Putin and the oligarchs fucked it all up.
RedBaron · M
I don’t particularly care. They started the war and Ukraine must win it.

Their economy is not our concern.
SW-User
I hope so. But it needs a regime change.
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@SW-User How do you suggest that occur? Will Putin's successor be any better? We can only hope. While I do support Ukraine, I do not like to see the suffering of a population many of which do not support the conflict.
SW-User
@RageAgainstTheMachine WE can only hope. And I have no idea
Elessar · 26-30, M
@RageAgainstTheMachine I'd split it first, and then perhaps speak of putin's successors
Elessar · 26-30, M
Yeah, by 2132 they should be back at 2021 levels
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Of course. The principal wealth of a country is ultimately its people and they are still there. And a lot of the remaining wealth of Russia is raw materials which have ready markets outside Russia so they will bring in foreign currency.

The only question is how quickly it will happen.
Khenpal1 · M
@ninalanyon Fortunately , Russia is totally dependent on tech import and majority of its regions are in lack of infrastructure. In time equipment used in mining will need replacement, at best it will take Russia 20-25 years to be back in pre-war times.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Whatever comes out the other side will be different. I think recover may be the wrong word.
FreestyleArt · 31-35, M
It would probably for 8 years for now unless something stupid sparks and Putin wouldn't be around that time
smiler2012 · 56-60
@RageAgainstTheMachine i cannot see it not recovering countries have gone through other economical crisis and pulled through
Khenpal1 · M
1.5 mill Russians live like rats , even before the war.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Step one is to turn it around.. No since of that yet...😷
MonaMartinez86 · 36-40, F
Yes , he can do , it !!!
RageAgainstTheMachine · 36-40, M
@MonaMartinez86 You do not have the mental capacity to reply to my posts.
MonaMartinez86 · 36-40, F
@RageAgainstTheMachine ooooh bad grammar
