I have visited Germany many times and yes, I did a Rhine river cruise from Basel (Switzerland) to Amsterdam or from Basel to Budapest via the Main-Rhein canal, been to Berlin, Munich, Passau, Neuschwanstein and a few stunning smaller cities along the Rhine river or the Main-Donau Kanal
All in all, a very positive experience.

Yes, when younger I visited my mother there while she had a job there. I have/had a half sister there I never met. My father had a romance after WWII. My fathers family line traces to Tirol and Bayern. An ancestor left in early 1700s... He lost his title for marrying a commoner under the laws of the time.

Yes, when in the USAF. Was a pilot who covered most of Western Europe in the 1960s. My last overnight was 1973 or 74, Ramstein I believe. Spent a day or two in most big cities. Berlin was a favorite. It was the Cold War era so only half of Berlin, though I did take a managed tour of East Berlin, through Checkpoint Charley, across the Berlin Wall.
A bit of time in Frankfurt, Munich and a few others.
As I understand, things are quite different now. Tempelhof has been repurposed, the Recy Bar is no more and Germany has a different look an feel now.

My family comes from there at least on one side we are Prussian Germans and Vons. I have been there a while back through Temple h o f f and Ramstein Air Force Base. It was the jumping off point in Germany for many of our forces headed to the Middle East.

No, but my brother has visited a few times. It would be a top 10 place to visit for me if i ever quit smoking for the plane rides.
