KFC apologises for Kristallnacht chicken and cheese promotion | Germany | The Guardian
From those wonderful folk who brought obesity to a store near you ...
KFC has apologised for a push notification sent out via its app inviting German customers to celebrate the anniversary of the Nazi Kristallnacht pogrom against Jews by ordering fried chicken and cheese."
@DunningKruger that is like a book i read once on advertising in the states... When a company got the new Toyota deal they were scratching their heads the a tag line and sunshine suggested "from those wonderful folk who bought you pearl harbour" lol
@BlueVeins The 4chan troll campaigns are the funniest. Taylor Swift did an online competition in which people could vote on which fan would meet their idol. The majority of the fans were little girls, but 4chan inflated the votes of this middle aged man and made him win and the site restarted the vote count.
In 2009 they had 4Chan's creator voted Times #1 most influential person
In another instance they trolled the fact that a lot of modern feminism is man hating and proved the point by having the term #endfathersday trend on Twitter. It started with 4chan members posting the tag with their explanation, and then regular users were posting it, talking about how unneeded men are.
They also one time had Oprah Winfrey in 2008 unknowingly use the term "over 9000" and the context was "let me read something that was posted on our message board from someone who claims to be from a pedophile network, it says this "he doesnt forget, he doesn't forgive, his group has over 9000 penises" and maybe i wont say the next part.
I had to look into this, because I couldn't believe KFC could be so stupid. Apparently what happened is that KFC has a program where they send people random advertisements based on local holidays. It's all done by automation and the company probably didn't even know what Kristallnacht is.
@BohemianBabe If you think the idea of people lying to themselves is unique in scope to just Trump supporters, you need to re evaluate your view of society. Pretty much everyone bases their understanding of reality on a grand narrative that simplifies a very complex world. I know people who downright pretend the history of bolshevism and mao-ism was a made up conspiracy theory to discredit the left. In their head they cannot accept that anyone on the left ever did anything wrong, which requires lying on a much bigger scope than any other delusion I know.
...Who thought that was a good idea Edit: So after looking it up apparently it was part of an automated thing that looks at calendar holidays , which includes remembrance days
Wow. I mean, let's start with the fact that mixing meat and dairy isn't kosher. Then let's all think about the fact that this is the least offensive thing about that push notification.
@LordShadowfire I hope people start to see not everything needs to be left up to an automated algorithm, some things still require human oversight for now
