Should Canada become the 51st US state ?

While left-leaning Canadians are balking at the idea of a Trump take-over, some say they'd jump at the chance to have the Donald in charge.

The US president-elect this week made his strongest bid yet to take over Canada, offering its people a 60 percent tax cut if they agree to join the US and become the 51st US state.

@Lilymoon let me in before you cut off ffs

It would be a lot funnier if all those lying liberal celebrities that 'threatened' to move to Canada if Trump won the election, had really done it. 😄
Nimbus · M
@AbbeyRhode Excellent point.
The word 'cowards' springs to mind :)

I don't think Trump was serious. BUT if Canadians WANT to become part of the United States, it would help THEM out a LOT. I had no idea that they were unable to keep their emergency rooms open up there. It sounds as though they are having a really hard time!

Of course, Trudeau is a commie dipsh!t, worse than Biden in many ways, so it's not surprising that he led his country right into the toilet.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti Nope. No passports required when traveling to ANY US territory...😊 But Denmark will not allow Trump to buy Greenland from them. They have earmarked two billion dollars to improve its defense, in fact.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou I have no desire to visit Greenland. Even the residents have a high level of depression there, suicides too. I was commenting on Canada more than Greenland.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti I don't think Canada will want to join with us...so, not to worry!
IMO, that was one impolite joke … very insulting to Canadian nation …
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Soossie It's profoundly insulting. He is also threatening Greenland and Panama. He hates democracies and only respects dictators like Putin.
@JimboSaturn

I’ve heard about his threatening Panama ..

I’m sure that at some point he will realizes how out of mind his statements are …
Thrust · 56-60, M
@JimboSaturn

He hates democracies and only respects dictators like Putin.

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!🤡
redredred · M
No. The last thing the US needs is to add a frosty California. I like my neighbors but I don’t need them to join my family. Canada is a fine neighbor but it’s full of Canadians who think of themselves as Canadians and that’s how it ought to be.

Now, if Vancouver, Montreal and Ottawa wanted to put together a few good MLB teams that would be a good thing. The Blue Jays can’t carry all the weight.
chrisCA · M
@redredred The United States would be adding a lot of blue voters.
redredred · M
@chrisCA we need a lot fewer
No, there has to be a place people can say they are moving to when their candidate loses , It's never south of the border for some reason.
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@FreeSpirit1 There seems to be some crackdown going on. Mexico has intercepted nearly 1 million migrants this year — a record high as it has ramped up policies that reduce migration to the U.S.
@Bumbles And deported them, the millions they let pass through are our problem now
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@FreeSpirit1 Yeah, I don’t know enough to say how much more Mexico can do. I read there are between 4000 and 6000 immigrants a day. Mexico is not a rich country and they also have horrible problems with gang violence. It seems their crack down is a good development.
fanuc2013 · 51-55, F
Canadians have funny heads and drive cars with square wheels. I saw it on South Park so it must be true!
@fanuc2013 That explains so much about your worldview being divorced from reality.
@fanuc2013 This is unironically how South Park fans talk.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
Trump just wants our oil, minerals and lumber.

We are their Walmart.

And they hate us for it. 😌
Nimbus · M
@LunarOrbit Makes sense then ;)
nedkelly · 61-69, M
A very tempting offer, as part of the deal they can make Rosanne Barr governor
@nedkelly NO THANK YOU!
shuhak · M
No. The US can't handle the territories (and states) it already has (trump hates Puerto Rico).

Not sure I've seen a single mentally sane Canadian say they would like to be apart of the USA.

And they would be taxed more... as while yes, they would be taxed less on the national level, Canada level government would still be taxing at their high rate.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@sstronaut I don't mind paying taxes. Us Canadians actually give a shit about our fellow countrymen and want a fair society.
@JimboSaturn And would you like to be part of the USA?

If yes, then I could be wrong.
If no, then you are proving my point.

I'm just pointing out that if Canada were to join the US, their taxes would be even higher. National taxes would be down, but their other taxes would more than make up the difference.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@sstronaut Absolutely not!

I propose we call in the ultrasecret elite Canadian JTF2 unit, The Parabeavers, to conduct a lightning preemptive strike and takeover of Maralago!

Trump will NEVER know what hit him!

[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joint_Task_Force_2]
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Hence their motto:

Deeds Not Words
@Guardian Yeah. I met a guy who was in the unit once. Passed from a heartache a few years ago.

We worked for the same civilian security company after he retired so it is not like I have any special access to these people (although I have 2 friends who are ex French legionnaires too).

Anyway he did not fit the stereotype at all. He was about 5'5" maybe 5'6", He was fit but not jacked. The most average looking dude you could meet.

He told me once that one of the hardest part of their job is just blending into a crowd. Being the guy nobody remembers seeing.

He said if people know there were operating somewhere it meant they messed up.

The point is to get in, get out without anyone knowing like a ghost.
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Like Mossad spies, unremarkable, unrecognizable, unseen, unheard.
Not going to happen. And even Canadian conservatives except maybe the Traitor in Alberta want have anything to do with him when he basically also threatened to try and destroy our economy.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Actually even Daniel Smith gave a pretty good rebuke to the troll.
@JimboSaturn Interesting. I must have missed that. The few interviews I have seen with her seemed like she was already taking orders from Trump. I mean shit. She is even creating her own border guards to comply with his demands which might actually be illegal. And I don't think calling them "sheriffs" will change that. Border security is very clearly a federal power.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Oh yes she is jumping at his request. She had a good come back for the troll's claim that the US is subsidizing Canada 100 million (although he meant 100 billion but didn't know how many zeros to add in his tweet) giving him a lesson on economics.
Hell no, if you put Trump and Trudeau on a plane to outer space with not enough fuel to make the return trip, Canada will consider allowing the USA the ability to become a province. Of course all debts will have to paid in full first and the newest province will have to provide its citizens free universal health care
Nimbus · M
@Justafantasy 👍
Fair enough, it might never happen.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
They are being taxed to death over in Canada. It’s out of control. Excise taxes on imported food etc. Many are fed up with it.
Kenworth4954 · 56-60, M
If they can't straighten there shit out it will be for the better
Nimbus · M
Thrust · 56-60, M
We'll just take Alberta, but they have to take Minnesota
val70 · 51-55
Having Trump as president would indeed make for a definite NO. Did you actually think how many languages there would be en plus? And no, even for ordering hamburgers in certain parts of Canada there would be a definite problem yet again. The country would fragment first.
Anniedlr · 26-30, F
Definitely not🙂
BeepBeep · F
Sure why not
swirlie · 31-35, F
@BeepBeep
Because as an American, you'd then have to learn how to speak Canadian and be forced to have annual maple syrup injections as winter approaches each year, or else you will contract an infectious disease from Canadians known as 'Maplesurpleiphilis' which is highly contagious.
smiler2012 · 61-69
@Nimbus if that is so why not let trump take over at old trafford nimby i mean he cannot be any worse for manchester united football club than reben amoron than say the last six they have had lol😆
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
If commonsense doesn't apply, offer the mug in the street a bribe. Worked for the MAGAs.
Nimbus · M
@novaguy2u Generally commonsense is rare and even more so in politics.
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
@Nimbus Sadly, you are absolutely correct.😕

I could have thought the US has other issues to start addressing first….
Smh
Nimbus · M
@Kiesel Good point.
IM5688 · 61-69, M
I find it highly unlikely that the US would add, (or even want to add,) Canada.
Seems our gov't can't handle the 50 states we have now. Why would we add more?
However, it would not surprise me if the Democrats wanted to add Mexico as our 51st state as it would solve the open border problem that they created.
@IM5688 The potential why is pretty obvious. Massive amounts of natural resources including the uranium that goes into American bombs.

The US has also had plans to annex Canada as far back as the 1930s. First it was part of a potential war with the UK if the British Empire didn't hand over control of basically the world.

During the cold war it was thought in many circles to be "necessary" to secure the northern flank because the US doesn't believe any other country can possibly defend themselves without a micro manager.
Kenworth4954 · 56-60, M
@IM5688 is the government supposed to handle the states? No it is not. The states can't handle themselves. California and New York for example
@Kenworth4954 Please. Red states are supported financially by essentially money transfers from blue states. Cry harder about a stereotype.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
God I can't wait to have no labour laws and spend forty thousand dollars on a hangnail.
GuiltyBiStander · 31-35, F
Total BS.

How about just he just starts doing his real job ?
Kiesel · 56-60, M
Of course not.. 😅
@Nimbus they have better healthcare, why would they want the American nightmare?
Nimbus · M
@SStarfish Great point 👍
@Nimbus 😊
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
No,they should become part of Michigan. 😁
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
Well, you can trust what he says.

There's been no cut in US Christmas leave or bonuses because he promised to increase tariffs.

US Businesses know where the cost will be incurred, despite his assurances.
novaguy2u · 70-79, M
@Zeusdelight I understand that some US businesses have already increased their prices to act as a buffer before tariffs cut it.
Thrust · 56-60, M
@novaguy2u

Of course you do...now prove it
SunshineGirl · 36-40, F
Why does he not make the same "generous offer" to the people of Mexico, who are far more likely to be receptive?

Federal tax cuts are meaningless if responsibility for the axed services will then have to be picked up by state governments.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Trump is a joke
Kenworth4954 · 56-60, M
@Jenny1234 oh settle down old girl 🙄
chrisCA · M
No way in Hell.
JSul3 · 70-79
Well....then the US would win Olympic gold in hockey.
@JSul3 Like in 1980?
One philosophy owns them all, the entire coalition of the warring.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
It’s good business for Canada. It’s not like the UK is helping Canada.

No, I think the entire USA will more than likely become the 4th Territory of Canada, which most likely will be called Canada's 'Southern Territory'.

This won't be a simple act of annexing the USA on Canada's part, but instead will be a total buy-out of Continental USA after the US economy self-implodes within the next 12 months and the USA puts itself up for sale to pay it's bills, just like Greece had to do with the Greek Islands when Greece defaulted on it's national debt and the entire country became insolvent.

The same thing will happen to the USA and Canada has more than enough money in the bank and in the ground as untapped natural resources to buy-out the entire USA and pay cash for it 6 times over. Cash is king baby! 💵
Kenworth4954 · 56-60, M
@swirlie blah blah blah blah🙄
swirlie · 31-35, F
Go ask King Charlie of Great Britain!

He'd have to approve of that transaction before it even got to Trudeau's desk!
@beermeplease What are your thoughts on this?
@beermeplease Why's that?
@NativePortlander1970 because it would change who we are as a nation and our personality, i don't want to become "american" not that there's anything wrong with america and its people....i love you guys but i also love what we stand for too.
@beermeplease Well said Brother :)

This is the "I said something super offensive so now I am going to scream it was a joke to get out of it like a child" play.
