This is different from fascism. Just as bad though.

@Nightwings That's fair. Neofascism could work. What it really is will crystallize in time too.
Nightwings · 31-35, F
@CountScrofula Yeah I thought of neofacism too. It is terrible either way, what's happening in that country. I really hope things get better again and don't just continue down this road.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@CountScrofula Yeah... Neofascism is way more indiviualistic I guess... 😅
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
It's government... yes.
I don't see what box they don't check with the course they are going. Don't forget, that Fascism is nationalistic, which means that fascists from different countries use their own cultural history to define the movement and it's direction. For most European countries, who have a large pre-liberal history, this is way easier then then the modern USA. Mainly, because the USA is defined by those founding fathers that did the intellectual heavy lifting. Like it or not, the founders of the USA are all early liberals. So, it's kinda hard to find a foothold to define your movement on, there is no Roman Empire, there is no Germanic pagean tribes and there is no Medieval setting. In a way, you need to illiberalize a liberal founding... but leave that to all the voices that have lost every debate surrounding the USA character, those christian fundamentalist and the heritage of the confederacy. Those and images of European movements in Spain and Italy during the 1930s, and lessons from illiberal leaders as Orban and Vladimir Putin are all being forged together with American exceptionalism.
You can argue that the republican party is a coalition... which I've always said on here (I think a lot of Anglo-Saxons with a "Winner-Take All" or "First Past the Post" system forget that sometimes). But the leading voice today, are the far-right factions and specifically the religious-fundamenalist types. What these people think in their free time, for now, is unimportant to the question because they are not the ones speaking to the crowd. If J.D. Vance is close to Peter Thiel, that's cool I guess... but as a Vice President, he falls in line with Donald Trump. There are no voices talking about seceding as long as Donald is in office. States rights are cool, if it's used to trigger the liberal states. But once liberal states have rights Donald doesn't like, then the federal government suddenly is mobilized to undercut those states rights. 🤷♂

Unfortunately it is now the sad part is this it is Americans honestly who are suffering more than others across the globe because think about this Trump is not only deporting illegal aliens he wants to deport now God given American citizens to foreign prison. He wants to impose political ideology on learning institutions which basically amounts to book burning parties and he wants to do away with or imprison anyone who does not agree with him. Thus far he has not done very much to the worldwide population except impose ridiculous tariffs which really don't hurt anyone else except for us. He is not here to make America great again in my opinion he's actually a Manchurian Candidate working for a foreign government to sink our ass from the inside

@KingofBones1 You are telling NO jokes in that post. 😬
What about this though -

It’s funny..
nobody was calling america a fascist state when granma was getting locked up for preying outside an abortion clinic..
Or how only the left is allowed exercise their rights and burn loot riot and be violent.. but conservatives are extremists…

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout Sounds like there's some hypocrisy going on.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout One of the things you gotta realize is that fascism feels pretty good if you're in the "in" crowd. It's not you they're after.
Also loads of rioters went to prison, and grandma wasn't kidnapped in broad daylight and sent to El Salvador with no due process.

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout selective justice\enforcement is the problem. Career politician (almost exclusively over retirement age btw) are the culprit. Fascism is the direction this situation is moving. Corona was released by bad policy and poor health habits(mostly during Trump). Regardless first use a disease to desensative the lose of freedoms. When "slowly but steadily remove those freedoms permenantly.

I'm afraid for the future
@SkeetSkeet Don't be
@SkeetSkeet me too
I don't believe Rump has the mental capacity to implement fascism in America, his goals are way way simpler, they just happen to follow the same path.
He wants to be the greatest man that ever lived, he wants to have statues built and people worshipping him, and his name to stand forever, his works taught in school. He wants to be King, a God, a Saint. He wants to be bigger than Jesus. He thinks he is good enough for all those things, and anyone that stands in his way is to be squashed/deported/unemployed/forgotten.

I would dare imagine that Satan's ego is not even as big as trump's.

I am not the religious type but I do know this - Satan tried that stunt and look where he is headed. I would dare imagine that Satan's ego is not even as big as trump's.

@JamesBugman He’s a narcissist, in fact. And the absolute last person who should’ve been given the keys to the kingdom.

What do you mean "turning into?"
If no one is able to force the federal government to actually follow the law, then yes ...
They're pretty openly breaking laws now...
They're pretty openly breaking laws now...
@sstronaut And just how exactly is that happening?
@NativePortlander1970 Courts order them to reverse their actions and they have refused.
Treasury Secretary signed off on a sharing agreement which the IRS deemed to be illegal based on privacy law.
But it really doesn't matter, as you just blindly ignore everything unless it's your own idea, so I'm not responding to your next follow up, as you'll just continue to ignore everything and most likely attempt to insult me, because you don't have any value to add. Have a good week.

Unfortunately, some aspects of this administration do indeed show similarities to previous fascist regimes.

No. The misogynistic, racist, speech censoring Democrats lost BIG in 2024.
