Is the US turning into a fascist country?

Or at least it's government.
Some observations include:
- Language around invading/seizing control of Greenland
- Direct/indirect undertones of threat towards Canada
- Disdainful attitudes from its members regarding the UK and the EU, and a general diplomatic disregard for other countries
- World wide economic coercion/blackmail with little or no care for the consequences, even to its own countries citizens financially
- The suppression and monitoring of school education, even in private schooling.
- The mass arrests/jailing and deportations of proven innocent foreign citizens

We see throughout history a trend of social and ideological cleansing, alongside economic, diplomatic, and military threats towards other nations during past fascistic regimes, and hostility towards foreign citizens often in the name of the betterment of the country in question.

What do you think?.

This is different from fascism. Just as bad though.

@CountScrofula What about it is different from this?

Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/ FASH-iz-əm) is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived.
@CountScrofula Count, what is different ? We may not be completely there yet, but we’re on the road…

@Nightwings @bijouxbroussard Fascism has a stronger collective sense to it. The notion that those on the "inside" are all pulling together for a common goal in the nation. Although MAGA is hyper-nationalist, there's no sense of collectivism in it, it's all strongly individualistic just with Trump worship. I think that's a vitally missing piece of the puzzle.

There is also this techno-feudalist movement brought through people like JD Vance and Peter Thiel. These ideas are the creation of independent "network states" run by CEOs. JD Vance's ideas are about splitting the US up into multiple CEO-ruled states. It's very not fascist.

There's still a LOT in common with fascism for all of the things you can easily point out, and I am kind of splitting hairs here because I think this is something old and something new at the same time. It is still very, very bad.

Seriously... where is the individual component? Because all the individuals, that dare to speak up, either get bullied into submission or removed. If you don't have "faith" in the big plan, you are a labeled with all kinds of demeaning terms. If you post your family picture, that contains a hindu wife, you get ostracized. Even "free market capitalists", are being bullied into going along with the partyline.

@CountScrofula I think what you're saying is that individualism is promoted rather than discouraged, as the current method which the US uses to control its people, is division – so basically you can't switch from division to fascism in the true sense of the word, over night. The US has combined fascism with its current methods, therefore it looks strange and doesn't really have a name of its own. It is "fascism with a twist" one could say, and it will probably be labeled "something-fascism" later on. It is the introduction of the fascist ideology which has recently changed the US.

@Nightwings You are talking about the society... But what about the people leading the governement right now? How much individualism is left there?
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Nightwings That's fair. Neofascism could work. What it really is will crystallize in time too.
Nightwings · 31-35, F
@CountScrofula Yeah I thought of neofacism too. It is terrible either way, what's happening in that country. I really hope things get better again and don't just continue down this road.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@CountScrofula Yeah... Neofascism is way more indiviualistic I guess... 😅
