I think the import of these monkeys would have to be under very tight scrutiny if allowed. Someone needs to question why this is not being done in China.

I found an article by a local Florida news source. A Chinese based corporation has bought the land, but zoning laws will not allow the land to be used for the intended purpose. And while a county sometimes makes zoning exemptions, the county zoning director in this case is opposed to it, and says that for something of this magnitude, the company would need to go through a state agency to obtain the exemption.
That will be a lengthy process.
It may very well be that permission will be denied. This is not a done deal, although I can easily imagine many news sources misrepresenting it that way.

@4meAndyou This is why that I was disappointed when Trump pulled out of the Trans Pacific Partnership, which would have been a trade pact involving the US and 12 pacific countries, in an attempt to curb China's economic power. I do realize that there were aspects of the agreement that were controversial and that one could argue against joining, but one consequence of pulling out is that China became more powerful. (For example, once the US withdrew, the Philippines signed a pact with China, whereas they would have signed one with us instead.)

@DrWatson Yes, Zoning law 14.1.4b clearly states: 'Housing of sick monkeys or orangutans or badgers or newts strictly forbidden.'

I support any government that chooses to not allow foreign ownership of land. House prices in Australia have been driven up by Chinese (and other countries) investors.
But let me tell you something interesting: Chinese are investing overseas because the Chinese economy is in trouble. It's not the unstoppable miracle everyone thought. Like most boom markets in Asia it has a limited lifespan because it's built purely on growth, not substance. Remember the Asian boom and crash? There were several. China's the same. That's why they need to expand into Taiwan or maybe even a weakened Russia.

@Abstraction I love learning new things!!!! Most especially I love learning that China is a boom market in danger of collapse!!!!
I hope and pray that OUR states and local governments put a stop to Chinese land purchases inside the United States.

@akindheart I’m pretty sure PETA is on the case. I’d be surprised if they’re not.

@akindheart @soar2newhighs @soar2newhighs Fox news had the PETA representative on the segment I watched, and she was thankful that they had alerted her. She made sure to stress that ALL drug and laboratory testing on primates is VERY wrong.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou sometimes PETA works. that is all i am going to say.

Maybe we should ban all foreigners from buying anything including food and fuel
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Why bring monkeys in ??
nedkelly · 61-69, M
And we are unable to purchase land in China
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
Sounds like the basis for a horror movie doesn’t it?
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@TheOrionbeltseeker hopefully it doesn’t happen. They can keep their sick monkeys in China.
4meAndyou · F
@cherokeepatti IF "something" escapes a lab in Florida, it will ruin our already ruined economy and Florida was one of the ONLY safe places left.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@4meAndyou and monkeys can live very well in Floridas climate
akindheart · 61-69, F

“Sickly”? If that’s not a warming, what the hell is?
Iwillwait · M
