What is unique about the Bible?

It was written by many men over many centuries. The earliest book we have is Job which was possibly written before Noah's flood. The various authors throughout the writing of the Bible all shared similar experiences. Moses redacted the Genesis accounts and added some of his own insights. The major and minor prophets all contributed to the corpus of the Bible but each wrote uniquely yet all shared similar experiences. We honestly don't know how many people contributed as we are not sure of the names of the authors of all the Psalms and proverbs and even in the New Testament we are not sure of the names of all the authors such as the author of Hebrews. Yet for all the over 2000 years of the writing of the Bible the message is basically the same. It points to a perfect God creating a perfect world who allowed a sinful creation such is satan to tempt the ones made in God's own image. Those made in God's image fell and passed on their sin nature to their offspring. Yet throughout this entire time God's own promises held. He would redeem His fallen creation and grant eternal life to those who trust in Him and His atonement. Finally after thousands of years the Redeemer came, He was Fully God yet submitted unto death in accordance with what the prophets of old had written. He was Crucified, Died and on the third day Rose Again. Those who trust Him know this to be true and are saved. Those who do not trust Him deny Him and His Salvatory work and either deny or seek another. There is no other. Jesus alone is the Salvation of mankind. Those who place their trust in HIm He shall in now way turn away. Those who deny Him or seek another stand condemned already for they have abandoned the Gift Given to us unto salvation. For it is by Grace (Gift) we are saved through Faith, not of our own lest anyone boast. It is a Gift of God.

There was no Noah's flood. The fact that anyone believes that is incredibly sad.

those silly myth peddling Jews. Lol

As it says in Titus 1:14 (CEV) =
"Don't pay any attention to any of those senseless Jewish stories and human commands. These are made up by people who won't obey the truth."
@hippyjoe1955 Which parts? Also why isn’t there anything about the creatures and bacteria that can seen with a microscope? Nothing about the vastness of the universe that man made tools are showing us? Your jealous, know nothing, iron fearing god does not impress.

@BlueSkyKing I hope that makes a lot more sense in your head than it does after you posted it in SW. Care to try again?

@jshm2 Jesus regularly quoted from the old testament!!
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@jshm2 What we know as the Old Testament did exist and we have record of Jesus reading from it. He also quoted it as He hung on the Cross. The New Testament was written shortly after His death by individuals who may well have seen Jesus during His earthly ministry. We know that the writers of two of the Gospels were disciples of Jesus and the author of several of the Epistles also walked with Jesus as He performed miracles.

One of the things I think is unique about the Bible is that one of its major characters is such an obvious hypocrite. The Jesus character was always flapping his jaws giving other people rules they should live by but he never observed any of his own rules.

A case in point is that he told people to sell their stuff and to give the money to the poor. When he had the opportunity to do that himself, by selling the costly perfume, he told his disciples "No way! I need that for myself!" He had said that people shouldn't worry about building up riches and worrying about tomorrow.

He also said that people should be willing to gouge out their own eyes and cut off their own body parts to keep from sinning.

So, when he refused to sell the perfume and give the money to the poor, did the disciples, especially Judas, decide at that time that they needed to get rid of Jesus because he was causing them to sin? He was part of their body but he was causing them to sin, so Judas cut him off.

Judas gets a bad rep for "betraying" Jesus but he did exactly what Jesus had said a person should do to keep from sinning. He got rid of the offending body part (Jesus himself). And then Judas got rid of himself so that he would be free from future sins.

@Diotrephes Can you name a few rules that Jesus gave. You keep flapping your jaw without any evidence. Here is your opportunity.

@Diotrephes the judgement day is coming. I hope you get your head screwed on straight before then or you will be joining Judas in hell. Your thinking is really screwed up.

I read a hilarious comment by a poster who thinks that because some characters in a fairy tale mention their involvement with the lead character that they were actually there in real life.

Who knew that when you read a book about a cowboy in the 1880s that the writer was really there with the cowboy, recording his words and deeds in real time. I'm not sure how that works in outer space stories, where the events happen far in the future. Maybe the writer used a time machine to send the story back into the past so that we would know what was going on the the future? After all, if it's written in a book it must be true.

Jesus spent forty days and forty nights with the devil in the wilderness. The devil promised him all of the kingdoms of the world if Jesus would worship him. The story says that Jesus rebuked the devil. But, is it possible that Jesus really did make a bargain with the devil? After all, it was after that incident that Jesus got the idea that he was going to become the king of the whole world.

We know that Jesus was a major hypocrite and the Bible says that it's a major mistake to trust a person who has his habits and behaviors. Is Jesus a disciple of the devil? His family didn't believe his story and his apostles turned their backs to him.

More copies sold than McDonald’s has sold burgers. Lol

@AthrillatheHunt Yep, and people never read the damn thing. They get their beliefs from silly Hollywood movies and con men preachers.
TheWildEcho · 56-60, M
Yes salvation is certainly a gift from God, we could definitely never earn it!!
Diotrephes · 70-79, M
We know that the writers of two of the Gospels were disciples of Jesus and the author of several of the Epistles also walked with Jesus as He performed miracles.

Little John hung out with Robin Hood in the forest, Tonto rode with the Lone Ranger, and Watson was pals with Sherlock Holmes. The evidence is in the movies and countless books so it must be true.

@Diotrephes If you think that somehow discredits the Bible you are mistaken. I mentioned the disciples not of proof of the authenticity of the New Testament but to show when it was written. Your bigotry is showing again.

Is it weird I think Job was written during then flood if it happened of course?

@Greyjedi
Is it weird I think Job was written during then flood if it happened of course?

The purpose of the Job and flood stories is to illustrate the First Commandment = Exodus 34:11-16, about worshiping no other gods. The Noah story also illustrates what complete obedience and total loyalty looks like. Noah was given an impossible task and he had no clue as to how to get it done. But he got busy and and finished his task without whining. He is the only major character in the Bible who did such a thing. Even the Jesus character cried and wanted a better deal.

Compare the Noah story to the Egyptians building the pyramids. Someone came up with the idea of building an elaborate pile of cut stone blocks. Did the people say that he was nuts from being in the sun too long and getting his brains fried or did they get to work and turn his dream into reality? People also did similar things in other parts of the world.

What is your usual first reaction when you first hear what seems to be an impossible task? Do you laugh or do you brainstorm with others about ways to make it a reality? Noah had a small team. Other tasks require much larger teams to accomplish the work. Such things require excellent leadership skills. And once the first pyramid was completed the IQ of everyone involved increased tremendously because they had visual proof of how to change an impossible dream into a beautiful permanent reality that would last for thousands of years.

While you and I know that it's possible to build such a pyramid, chances are we would never do it if we lived for another 10,000 years because it is not our dream nor do we have the leadership skills to get others to do it and there is no one who can inspire us to be part of such a team to help them do it. But, we can do other impossible taks because those things are our own dreams that we can turn into reality if we want to.

That's what those stories are really about.

@Diotrephes You truly have no idea what you are talking about.
