Deciding to enlist in the Marines was a wise choice

Deciding to enlist in the Marines was a wise choice I made at age 18.I have always loved the USA and wanted to defend it.It was either a college scholarship offer or this.Thought it over well and had my parent's support, decided on the Marines. It was well worth it for me,did 14 years with lots of memories to this day.I was 32 when I got out.

While joining the Marines is certainly a great achievement,I've been told that it lacks the job training that the other branches of the armed forces offer;the only thing they teach you is how to kill people.Unless you plan on being a "lifer",or join the Mafia when your tour is up,that's not exactly a profitable life skill.

@sunsporter1649 Were you given your choice in where to go?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DavidT8899 I went where I was sent, did not reenlist after my 4 year hitch was up

@sunsporter1649 If you would have re-enlisted and they offered to send you anywhere, where would it have been?

I wish i joined the army. Iv had opportunities to enlist but never did because I was persuaded with a different life. I now regret it.
@GuyWithOpinions I knew I would feel this way someday. That is why I enlisted way back. I knew that one day I would be kicking myself for not joining.

@orioninthenight i was swindled by a pretty girl. Thought i would want to stay here and be with her. Turned out to wreck my entire life. I could have been jumping out of planes with my brothers. I could have had honor and purpose.

@GuyWithOpinions You still could have those things. While it may be too late to be a Marine, its never too late to have a meaningful life.
I have great respect for you and all of us who serve.
I served in the IDF , three years mandatory service and another 21 in the reserves.

It was a good choice for me also but then four years later I made a different choice and got out . Liked the time I was there, great memories and probably should have stayed in.

Thank you for serving your country for so many years.
I was drafted in 1970 in the 1st draftt lottery. Sent to Vietnam as a Infantryman for 12 months. Got an early out after serving 20 months. Best thing that ever happeneed to me.

VA in my town is really good to me.
