Deciding to enlist in the Marines was a wise choice

Deciding to enlist in the Marines was a wise choice I made at age 18.I have always loved the USA and wanted to defend it.It was either a college scholarship offer or this.Thought it over well and had my parent's support,decided on the Marines.It was well worth it for me,did 14 years with lots of memories to this day.I was 32 when I got out.

While joining the Marines is certainly a great achievement,I've been told that it lacks the job training that the other branches of the armed forces offer;the only thing they teach you is how to kill people.Unless you plan on being a "lifer",or join the Mafia when your tour is up,that's not exactly a profitable life skill.

@DavidT8899 When you stand on the yellow footprints, let us know, until then, your opinion is worthless bullschiff

@sunsporter1649 I wasn't trying to disrespect being a Marine.I realize its a difficult and honorable thing to achieve,and I admire the person who can do it and appreciate the sacrifices they make.But a facts a fact:they simply don't have the educational opportunities that the Army,Navy,etc posses.Which is fine;you could argue that it's not necessary for the Marines to have that.

@DavidT8899 Ya ever wonder who fixes all those aircraft and vehicles the Marines use to support the riflemen?

@sunsporter1649 You tell me.

@DavidT8899 Marines, serving their country and learning a trade

@sunsporter1649 Hey,I was just going on what I was told.I stand corrected.But could you tell me if this is true?I was told if you serve long-term in any branch of the military,it offers good travel opportunities.(I spoke to one guy who served his rotation as a Marine and got out.He told me that they told him that if he re-enlisted, they'd assign him to any place in the world that he wanted.)

You’ve been told wrong . I worked on planes . Communication and navigation. But actually I didn’t take advantage of many things I could have , and actually still could.@DavidT8899

@DavidT8899 Yup, very true, reenlisting, aside from the bonus, assignment to any post you wished was a perk
@sunsporter1649 Learning a trade in Dave's book doesn't count. He is still young and wet behind the ears. Besides, if the US was ever attacked, he would probably be the first one to run off to Canada.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@thedarkside Uh,let's not make assumptions,shall we?FYI: people who learn a trade are far better equipped to handle the world-and are much smarter-than a college graduate who gets one of those ridiculous "woke"degrees.And as far as me"running of to Canada",I think it's pretty rude of you to say something like that when you don't know me from Adam.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@sunsporter1649 I take it you were a Marine.
@DavidT8899 Nope! Guess again.
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@thedarkside If you are referring to my question bout being a Marine,I was talking to sunsporter1649.I already know what you are:a person who makes too many assumptions about people you don't know.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DavidT8899 Yes, 1968-1972
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@sunsporter1649 Were you given your choice in where to go?
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@DavidT8899 I went where I was sent, did not reenlist after my 4 year hitch was up
DavidT8899 · 22-25, M
@sunsporter1649 If you would have re-enlisted and they offered to send you anywhere,where would it have been?
