Apparently it is much different than when I was looking gir a job. Apparently all you do is upload applications online and wait to be contacted nowadays?

@uikakarotuevegeta it wasn't I that made the baseless claim of the last 15 years. Get your calculator out to figure out what 2024 - 15 =.

It is amazing that some of the 'adults' of today not only depend on prospective employers to contact them instead of the other way around, they also resort to childishly blocking you when you say something they don't like. Isn't that right, young adult??
DDonde · 31-35, M
Yes. There are fake job postings (company is either not actually hiring and is lying or company is going to hire internally but feels the need to make a posting anyway) and many large companies employ automated filtering of applications. Additionally there is a flood of scams posing as job opportunities. I got lucky with my current job because of a previous connection I had had with the company in the past.

@uikakarotuevegeta by the way it is extremely hard for someone who is in their late twenties to find a job when they've never actually held a job working for someone else.
uikakarotuevegeta · 26-30
@dale74 that's completely irrelevant and a little inappropriate for you to be writing that
It's a job itself in my experience.
Often times you have to technically do work and still not get chosen (i.e. interview rounds where u are tested in Ur skills /knowledge /contribution in projects etc).
It requires a lot of time and energy and even money

most jobs these days only want people who will do more for less they want people who work more and agree to less pay for their jobs
@XDHyperGirlXD1 When I managed stores and restaurants I did my best to be fair and balanced, I expected each of my employees to do their jobs they were assigned to.

@NativePortlander1970 While anecdotal, I think that is largely true. Of course, there are exceptions and sometimes complaints are reasonable. I find that when presented in a productive way though, most managers are open to hearing complaints and considering alternatives and solutions. Many times, it's a matter of how those complaints are communicated. Likewise, there sometimes are managers who are simply not open to any challenges to the status quo which creates workplace conflict.

Not easy to find someone called Job, so it is a difficult hunt.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
The job hunt itself is pretty easy and somewhat fun, but the interview process is fairly difficult, nerve-wracking, and biased in favour of people who can easily chat it up. That being said, it's not impossible to succeed with it. Like most things, it just takes self-discipline, persistence, and being able to give the interviewers what they want to see and hear. Having a solid uni transcript and premeditated questions and answers also helps.

I noticed since the Pandemic that jobs in my field have increased 5x.
uikakarotuevegeta · 26-30
@Pfuzylogic and which would that be

As blindly as they publish job ads just to see if someone's interested, as blindly have I sent job applications without even looking at companies' names. No difference to how quickly they turned me down. But when I changed my status to "actively searching", I had weirdoes contact me asking when I'd finish my master's degree, not having jobs to offer for now. I'd call it weak if the attempt wasn't just dumb.

I have not been job hunting since 2011.
I would imagine today, just like then - low wage deadbeat jobs are probably easy to come by.
It would be the good jobs that are hard to find.

@uikakarotuevegeta Not so much the ones where speaking English is needed.
I think a lot of the undesirable jobs are being taken by illegals etc because most Americans will not do them.
I mean Americans are just not going to dig ditches or work construction clean-up for minimum wage. It just is not worth it.
I know in some countries, the amount we call "minimum wage" is a fortune for them, so it works out.

@CestManan even low end retail and restaurant jobs are being taken by international students and new immigrants let's be honest here (not sure if illegals and refugees are though). have you ever noticed how as soon as a Desi gets to a manager position, suddenly the workplace is filled with Indian staff?
CestManan · 46-50, F
@uikakarotuevegeta i notice a lot of gas stations are owned by indians, other places it is still a mix.
dale74 · M
Yes it is
hunkalove · 61-69, M
Just wait until El Trumpo sends those millions of illegals back to Mexico. There will be all kinds of jobs that don't pay a living wage.
uikakarotuevegeta · 26-30
@hunkalove lol only illegals are willing to accept wages below minimum federal/state wage because if they don't, they can't survive and they'll get deported faster

My boss got me the job I have now when he retired so I haven’t gone in an interview in decades
uikakarotuevegeta · 26-30
@Jenny1234 lucky bastard
Nanori · F
Finding a job is very easy but finding a job that pays even remotely fair is nearly impossible
uikakarotuevegeta · 26-30
@Nanori finding a minimum wage job is pretty much impossible unless you're an illegal, refugee, new immigrant, international student, or willing to work during the night shift.
It's pretty dead out there

Referrals are the best.

@Selah it does boost the chances but not a guarantee
