All depends pm the the on the responsibility if you can afford to take pay cut
You normally try to get more money the higher you go
Plus it is about job satisfaction

Yes, for less work, and less responsibility, more paid vacations and more benefits sure 😊

@SW-User Oh flexibility of hours is important too, you might bargain that in too.

SW-User
@Carazaa I once tried that back in Audi and I got a response that if you want a personal life, you should look at settling overseas. How mean was that. So I thought fuck it and I left Audi after 4 years + and joined Jaguar where I had no personal life at all 😭

SW-User
@Carazaa Can we take this on private message?
Yulianna · 26-30, F
why are you even considering this?
is $7000 per month a good salary in your market?
is this figure net of taxes and deductions?
finally, if the new company wants you they will pay for you. if they don't offer your price, they don't really want you.

@Yulianna Lol I love that you can be mildly intimidating 🤣 I found my partner in crime.
Yulianna · 26-30, F
@SW-User 😯 only mildly!!! i must try harder! 😂😂😂

SW-User
@Yulianna lol I have often got this in the actual world that I come across as very intimidating so usually others don't intimidate me. I said mildly for the poor souls who may think before saying anything.🤭
Firegod74 · 46-50, M
For me I guess it would depend on the perks that go with it. A pay cut at a company with better benefits might even itself out.

SW-User
@Firegod74 In my last drawn salary, I have not accounted for the car perk that I got because it gets added separately under perks. In this particular company, there is no perk involved at all.

SW-User
@Dlrannie You are worth every penny beautiful 😘😘😘
antonioio · 70-79, M
Being able to sell your self and knowing your worth when talking to a potential new employer is very important
So what you were doing, was it worth that amount of money, I'm sure you have a very good idea, the important thing is never sell yourself short

I guess that’s a personal choice and depends on your career goals.
At this point in my life I would look at whether I enjoy where I am. I don’t want to spend my time and energy somewhere I’m not happy regardless of the money. But that’s just me.

SW-User
@Pinkstarburst That's a fair point and I agree with you. In my case, I cannot last in an organization where I don't enjoy the work. It's just not built in me. But again that's just me and others may think differently.
Am I asking for above the average wage for the position I'm offered???
Can I afford to hang out in my current job for a while longer???
Would the proposed wage still be something I can live off???
You've left a lot unanswered for people to make a fair determination...

@HootyTheNightOwl You are viewing this from a survival point of view. I am asking the question from an ambitious perspective. There comes a point in your professional life when you move beyond survival needs.
Who is asking for above the average wage? The post clearly indicates that the employer is asking to settle 20% below the existing or last drawn salary. And the last drawn or existing salary is as per industry standards.

Only if you ABSOLUTELY need a job now.
But they should know that you would still be looking 🤷♂️
But they should know that you would still be looking 🤷♂️

SW-User
@Teslin Yeah, they asked me if I am talking to others and I did affirm having 3 interviews in the pipeline.
Teslin · M
@SW-User Yes, they always come in low to see if you are bluffing LOL. Good luck with your search.

SW-User
@Teslin LOL i aint.
Ynotjenn · F
That’s a huge difference. If comparable positions are paying the higher amount, that’s borderline insulting. It would make me question a lot of things about the company

SW-User
@Ynotjenn Bang on! Just the way I thought.

SW-User
Only for a job I thought had real potential and would give me a better work life balance than the one I have currently

SW-User
@SW-User Then I made the right decision
Dlrannie · 31-35, F
I set my own charges and if people don’t wish to pay then I don’t work for them 🙂

SW-User
@Dlrannie That's exactly what I do presently.
dale74 · M
I have in the past it was because of the schedule allowed me more time with my daughter

SW-User
@dale74 How sweet of you
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
NEVER "trade down" ,, always "Trade Up" on salary

SW-User
@heavyone2 Thank you
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
I would only accept such a cut if I could work 20% fewer hours!
I have been at the same job for 23 years and I have never gotten a pay cut. I have been promoted and that is always an increase, and then we get annual increases due to inflation.
I hope it all works out for you and you enjoy the job and can live comfortably.

here in the usa employers are desperate for help. you have a large influx of immigrants, some i know are very intelligent, you may have to compete with

SW-User
@1490wayb Do you remember the title?
1490wayb · 56-60, M
@SW-User no i dont sorry

SW-User
@1490wayb No prob :)
tallpowerhouseblonde · 36-40, F
Refuse outright.With high inflation and employers currently desperate then asking you to take a salary cut is unreasonable.Also ask if all the HR team are taking a 20% pay cut and ask for proof if the answer is yes.
You should ask for a pay rise in line with inflation.

BizSuitStacy · M
Is the job for the same type of role and level of responsibility? If so, a 20% reduction doesn't sound competitive. Without knowing anything else (benefits, growth potential, etc.) I'd say no.

SW-User
@BizSuitStacy Yes, it's for the same profile but in fact for a higher position. No idea has been given on succession planning.
BizSuitStacy · M
@SW-User I think you already know the answer then. Don't sell yourself short.
Lifehues · 51-55, M
Not unless they are giving you a stake in the company or it is a role you cannot get anywhere and you want that experience.

SW-User
@Lifehues Neah, it is an average role - nothing that would give me a kick.
Lifehues · 51-55, M
@SW-User May it rain more interesting offers for you :)
AngelKrish · 26-30, M
I will only accept it if it has good profile or working profile which I am seeking for ....and the work I like to do..work that I enjoy....
Otherwise no chance to go down...lol
Otherwise no chance to go down...lol

SW-User
I’m still at entry level with the jobs I take so it’s usually minimum wage ..so no way ..

SW-User
@SW-User Yeah, in the beginning of my career I didn't really have much say anyway.
solitaire · 41-45, F
If I'm happy with my current job I wouldn't

SW-User
@solitaire Presently, I am self-employed but now I am looking at a good comeback in the corporate sector.
Budwick · 70-79, M
@SW-User
THAT may be the difference right there.
When I was about your age I left the corporate world and took lower money to escape the corporate mind set. I've thought about that decision a few times since then, but never regretted it.
You're making good money now in your self directed job. You must know what your are doing if you are able to pull down that kind of money. Think carefully before jumping out. Especially if you are in the same kind of business the corporation is. If you end up unhappy after a while, they may have a non-compete clause in there somewhere if you leave.

@Budwick Yeah, the non-compete clause is applicable for 1 year after resignation.
ozgirl512 · 31-35, F
Depends on job availability.... Or who's holding the whip hand

SW-User
@ozgirl512 The job market will further open up in the month of March i.e. before the fiscal year begins.
ozgirl512 · 31-35, F
@SW-User If you need the job then it's your decision to make
Jenny1234 · 56-60, F
No I wouldn’t settle. 20% is a huge decrease in pay

SW-User
@Jenny1234 Yeah, even I felt the same.

SW-User
My current salary is zero so I’m going to say no

SW-User
@SW-User Hahaha! Good response. Smart!
Punches · 46-50, F
I sent a PM, but not about this thread.

SW-User
@Punches Replied.
dale74 · M
What is your skill
heavyone2 · 61-69, M
Hell no
Fukfacewillie · 56-60, M
Depends on the market, past salary, long term goals, others in similar job.

SW-User
In the current climate yes the alternative is you can go on the dole for £70 a week for 6 months then nothing or find another job which i doubt you wont get anywhere near £5000 a month

SW-User
@SW-User Then allow me to enlighten you with some wisdom. I am still offered an opportunity to join my previous organization, Jaguar Land Rover which I sure you must know is owned by an Indian company. The salary offered is exactly as it was and i.e. a little more than $7,000. It quite also depends on the credentials of the candidate. I am a graduate in Mass communication with MBA from one of the IVY league business schools. Evidently, I have not added the car perk because it comes to us beyond the ctc.

SW-User
@SW-User Am i supposed to be impressed ? What part of being in a pandemic dont you understand ? do you seriously think people have money to buy new land rovers ? World wide recession is looming idc what qualifications you have or what money you earn in this current climate no one will be earning that sort of money

SW-User
@SW-User You are not supposed to be impressed because you are not in that position. You are supposed to use basic common sense. What part of English don't you understand? Do you seriously think JLR will give an offer if they don't have the money to pay? Do you even know that the market is slowly opening up and hence there are so many recruiters calling with job opportunities? I would have agreed with you had this been a situation in 2019 or 2020.

SW-User
It isn't really the market for pay cuts

SW-User
@SW-User Some are taking advantage by playing the covid card, although if I read their financial reports (available on public domain), they are generating profits.

SW-User
@SW-User if where you're at is anything like Australia, COVID has actually led to less skilled migration, therefore greater bargaining power and increased wages

SW-User
@SW-User For the Indian market, there are many candidates and very few employers. DD is more than SS.

@Stereoguy I declined the offer. I actually don't even want a senior management position. Therefore, I'm primarily looking for senior manager or chief manager positions
