Would you settle for a salary lower than your last drawn or current salary?

The HR of a potential employer asked me if I can come down on my salary expectations.
My last drawn salary is a little over 5000 pounds or approx 7000 USD a month and she wanted me to settle for 20% lower than that.

Would you do that?

@solitaire Presently, I am self-employed but now I am looking at a good comeback in the corporate sector.

I am self-employed

THAT may be the difference right there.

When I was about your age I left the corporate world and took lower money to escape the corporate mind set. I've thought about that decision a few times since then, but never regretted it.

You're making good money now in your self directed job. You must know what your are doing if you are able to pull down that kind of money. Think carefully before jumping out. Especially if you are in the same kind of business the corporation is. If you end up unhappy after a while, they may have a non-compete clause in there somewhere if you leave.

@Budwick Yeah, the non-compete clause is applicable for 1 year after resignation.
