Would you settle for a salary lower than your last drawn or current salary?

The HR of a potential employer asked me if I can come down on my salary expectations.
My last drawn salary is a little over 5000 pounds or approx 7000 USD a month and she wanted me to settle for 20% lower than that.

Would you do that?

why are you even considering this?

is $7000 per month a good salary in your market?

is this figure net of taxes and deductions?

finally, if the new company wants you they will pay for you. if they don't offer your price, they don't really want you.

@Yulianna It is common for the companies here to negotiate your salary for a long time and that has nothing to do with not wanting the candidate. It's a common tactic used by HR professionals. How else will they be appraised for their performance? LOL

Yes, it is after taxes and other IT deductions.

$7000 is 0.5 million Indian rupees per month and that at the age of 37 with 12+ yrs of experience is definitely good for the market.

@Yulianna lol I have often got this in the actual world that I come across as very intimidating so usually others don't intimidate me. I said mildly for the poor souls who may think before saying anything.🤭
