i think it in interesting question. I went through the answers and made the observation that I think was accurate before i went through the thread.
I woud offer up the premise that oligopolies that offer a comodity will dominate lists like this on any website for the primary reason they do not have to beg for your business. It there is a large back end service delivery it wont' matter if they are an oligopoly or not due to implimentation costs from the business.
For instance I saw Amazon. If you leave Amazon and want to purchase online plan b can be rough. at times.
Verison same deal--if you left Verizon you probably only have one other choice with another organziation that isn't customer service focused
Also customer service is a negociation and if you are coming in with "fix my situation or i will take my business somewhere else' you are not negociating you are delivering an ultimatum.
As soon as you do that the business will need to decide as a business decision how much they can concede to your ultimatum while still seeing you as a profitable customer. It is why change my password is almost aways accomodated but your quality sucks give me a discount rarely succeeds. one of those makes eocnomc business sense and the other does not. It is also why phone companies give you free phones in exchange for long term contracts--it is a negociation as is all customer service. (phone sales reps are csr's not sales people)
as a matter fact in the sense of introspection read various CSR threads (a few on here) but mostly in other places and you will see that theme over and over ---that they are expressing ideas of negociations not dealing with ultimatums.

KFC - I swear the employees over charged and pocketed the difference.
Dunkin' Donuts - unless I just want donuts. Donuts is good, anything else, no.
And not companies as a whole, but certain Wendy's, McDonald's
A couple of local restaurants. Which is sad, because this one is ABSOLUTELY amazing food, but the owner (wife) runs the kitchen and the food is amazing, but she has her husband run the front of the place, and it's all about him and he's absolutely pissed off a lot of customers.
A lot of shoes stores have failed to have my foot size... and a lot of shoes companies as well, which is why I'm a life long buyer of New Balance which always had options for me, when others had no options.
My Doctor as a kid... there was ALWAYS a minimum of a 45 minute delay and sometimes it was more than 90 minutes delay of when you were scheduled to when they actually saw you, which was only made worse by my Parents obsession with being everywhere 15 to 40 mins early... if they're only 15 minutes early, they feel like they're late. I begged and begged and begged to go to a different doctor and finally once getting a bit bigger, they agreed and it was so much better customer service.

There have been a few
But most recently was a pizza place. I ordered carry out and went to pick it up. I sat in their lobby watching people come and go. I keep asking about my order and was told it was in the oven. Finally I said I wanted a refund and they again asked the name of my order and they looked around. Oh sorry we didn't see this. It was ready the whole time I was there. I was pissed. It was cold by now. I asked for a manger and of course there wasn't one. They said they would I could take it home and put it in the oven myself to heat it back up. Or come back in a hour because they remake it but there where many orders ahead of mine. I took the pizza called the manger the next day got refund and a coupon for a free pizza that I will never use.

I once sat at a Chilis restaurant for an hour without seeing a waiter once. I’ve never been back to one. I understand it was probably a snafu on their part but I just haven’t had the notion to go back to one
Wendy's... when I was in line waiting for my order and 'Latisha' was asked by another employee where Terry was, and she replied "He takin' a s**t". The other employee then reprimanded her for saying that out loud that all the customers heard and she shrugged and replied "Everybody do it". I have not eaten there since.

@SmileOnYourBrother well if u don't want to know where he was the worker shouldn't have asked
The local funeral home offered me a casket at 25% off if I agreed to be buried in the next 30 days. ⚰
I was not amused. 😒

@SumKindaMunster I reserved a pickup truck four months in advance, because I needed it for a specific day. A day and a half before I was supposed to pick it up, they said they didn’t have one. And the closest truck they had was massive, and wouldn’t fit down the road I had. I ended up having to rent a $300 pickup for a single day from enterprise.
I had to drive past the uhaul that morning on my way to enterprise, and they had a pickup truck there 😖 I’m assuming they prioritize the length of the rental instead of the order in which they’re reserved.
Had they given me more than a day and a half notice, I would have had time to find something else that wasn’t $300

I've had a few. But they are unimportant to me in fact so much so that I cannot remember to even name them at the moment

Amazon.
Their relationship with UPS is dysfunctional at best and their Customer Service creates more issues than it solves.
