Are you superstitious?

My rational brain tells me these were just stories we told to scare our children into behaving.

But I also left an offering to the little people because 😬

I always believed the little people lived into my wardrobe as a child. I was going there and suddenly opening the door but I'd never catch them. I was doubting but I'm certain that in a parallel universe they're still hanging out there, the little people, in my childhood's wardrobe 😌

My working adage is: If it’s not science, it’s superstition.

When we are children, belief is vital for survival. But parents use myths to exercise control. Such as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.

My grandma told me weird stories of creatures in the forest, a bit like W. T. Cox' "Fearsome Creatures of the Lumberwoods".
For example, the "axe man": a man with an axe in his right hand, and his own head under his left arm. 😬

@helenS Eeee.

@SwampFlower That was one of the mild ones...
I have a superstition that I should look both ways when crossing a street—even if it's a one-way street, and even if the "walk sign" is telling me it's OK to talk. I still have a compulsion to look both ways!!

I'm possibly the only Italian person who isn't superstitious, AMA

@SwampFlower Canned peaches (idk how they're called in English - those with syrup in case there's different kinds) are a drug, but not on pizza ffs 🙇🏻‍♂
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@Elessar I’m from Georgia. Peaches in a can are blasphemy.

@SwampFlower We grow a lot also here, but our culinary fascio-reactionism isn't triggered by canning 'em; at least nowhere as much as putting them on pizza/pasta

That’s nice that you left something for @ShepherdBard.
No, not superstitious. But I am open to being convinced with actual proof, and meanwhile imagining is great fun.

@Mamapolo2016 I’d go back country camping with you any day 🤗
@SwampFlower if anything happens, you’d have to drag me out. Or just leave me, which would be far more sensible.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@Mamapolo2016 It’s okay, I’ve got people to drag us out. I’ve taught them everything I know.
Notsimilarreally · 31-35, F
I don’t know about the little people : (

What did you leave them lol?
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@Notsimilarreally fruits, herbs, tobacco…depends on what is on hand lol
Lilymoon · F

I'm not but sometimes, parts of my brain are
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
@caccoon I think that is where I’m at, too. I’m in it more for connection and grounding. Reverence doesn’t always have to entail belief.

The ONLY pagan superstition that is left in my family rituals is to knock on wood. Usually we knock on our own heads...🤣🤣🤣
