my mom was feminine...i looked up to her and all feminine women alike...without femininity the earth dies...plain and simple.

I think the parameters are changing in recent years but femininity is womanliness and all things feminine which I love.

Sounds like you're living in a different world. Femininity doesn't have a bad reputation anywhere I have been.
YaGirlSara · 22-25, FNew
@Miram totally fair enough. I think I've just always been told I'm too girly and people can't take me seriously because of that
Miram · 31-35, F
@YaGirlSara attributes like assertiveness, being driven, confidence...they can all be feminine too
It sounds more like the people you talk about have twisted definition of femininity.
You may want to explore yours independently from theirs.

@Miram since ancient times, femininity has been equated with fertility, and it’s been the women who’ve taken the perilous and dangerous role of continuing our species. In modern times; in the female personality, courage, endurance, and confidence still persist. To say nothing of enduring the pain of childbirth!
But the girly part of femininity is equally legitimate, because typically that’s the part that the male responds to, and of course male arousal is necessary for the whole thing to work.
My wife and I have a Female Led Relationship. She’s an attorney and is smart, strong, confident and forceful. While she’s at work every day I stay home and do housekeeping and laundry, in somewhat of a role reversal by modern standards.
As might be expected, she’s acquired some masculine attitudes, and I’ve become more girlish.

All i think of is what is often materially associated with a women like clothing, beauty products, colors, etc... as far as strong and weak i think everyone is weak. What matters is being smart or clever.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
This is my perspective. Everyone's perspective is different. So each has their own definitions.
Feminine:
More caring and perhaps a bit emotional.
Being emotional isn't weak. Actually takes a lot of guts to be emotional. Only being emotional all the time should be considered weak.
Must state the non obvious. Both men and women don't want to recognize smell as feminine. Yet there is a natural feminine smell that is attractive. I'm not referring to perfumes either.
Society as a whole likely assigns other factors.

It’s not so much that it’s gotten a bad reputation, it’s that it doesn’t have a "one size fits all" definition—yet some people try to force it to, by deciding who they’ve judged is or isn’t "feminine".
YaGirlSara · 22-25, FNew
@bijouxbroussard so true

The words Femininity and Masculinity are always subjective to your own perceptions, biases, experience, etc. For instance, the word Toxic seems attached to masculinity a lot. The first feminist book that gained popularity was "The Feminine Mystique". The connotation of words is fluid. All that being said, as long as you're comfortable in your own skin, happy about who you are and treat people with respect the words people use about you are irrelevant.

I think of it as a privilege mostly, but I don't like the societal expectations associated with femininity
