People Who Love To Cook: How Much Would Tou Like To Be Gifted With A KitchenAid stand Mixer?

From Amazon and the red one worth around $400?
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
Those things look great. But take up a heck of a lot of space. Apartment living. Over here. Not sure I can squeeze it in. I'll have to stick to my hand held mixer!
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Mellowgirl Yeah it will be a matter of priorities and that would be right up there with the coffee maker and toaster for sure.
Musicman · 61-69, M
Don't do it!!!! It's a mistake guy's! 30 years ago my wife and I were poor. It was a really bad year for us and it was Christmas time. I had bought her Christmas present, but she was going on and in about wanting a blender. So I took the last of our money and bought her the blender. Instead of being happy it ruined Christmas and now to this day I hear about buying her a blender for Christmas. Don't do it! No! No! No! Let her buy it herself.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Musicman I have forgiven others for much much worse than a gift that wasn’t appropriate and so can you with the regret over your gift. Think of yourself as your best friend and proceed from that.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti Oh I have forgiven her, but she still tells the story of the blender for Christmas every so often.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Musicman Holiday tradition, just laugh it off, man. You’ve probably exceeded her expectations and hers as well.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
Bought a similar one and I have yet to use it. It has all the features of a KitchenAid mixer and costs less.

Would give a link but it's no longer available. Cost $219.

Must note had super long delay on getting it. Like five months delay and many calls to Amazon.

Yet it's a 8.5 quart mixer.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti wish I was still back in the mountains. Well water there wasn't metered yet I was charged electricity to pump it. You win in some ways and you lose in some ways. But at least I knew the water was pure.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@DeWayfarer I watched a video where a man was living off-grid near a good stream of water. He hooked up a water wheel that generated energy to a long cord to his home and that’s where he got most of his power. Also had solar panels and maybe a propane cook stove.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@cherokeepatti that works only as long as it's near a stream. With that you have a problem with flooding. Believe me I knew about flooding in the mountains...

elafina · 36-40, F
I think it's great! But I think too that what makes baking goods so good are the hands evolved... Giving warmth and energy, transmitting love to breads and cookies 🤤🍪
It'd be good for cakes though and more liquid dough's recipes..
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@elafina I would agree till I got rheumatoid arthritis to the point it was no longer comfortable to hand-knead. I loved kneading bread too. I am in remission since taking Boswellia the last 9 months but still.

Guaranteed for life, worth the expense
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Ontheroad I worked at a Congregate Meal site when I was 23 years old and those commercial stand mixers impressed the heck out of me. I loved to bake bread at home and they made homemade bread every day. Also used it for mashed potatoes, cakes, cookies etc. Came in very handy. I wanted a small home use one but their prices were out of my league then.
Ontheroad · M
@cherokeepatti have you checked Kitchen Aide's website? They have refurbished ones at steep discounts. I know a couple of people who bought thirs there and got essentially brand new macines at a big discount.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Ontheroad No I have never checked there.
Oster1 · M
I love mine and have for a long time. There are many reasons why, and the optional attachments, really work great. I do see them on sale. If you find a 'Classic Model', it's really all most need.

That being said, a good cook, really doesn't 'need' one. Simple hand technique, hand mixers and immersion blenders work well on things. Never discount a good food processer, either.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Oster1 I love to make homemade bread and rolls from scratch but was thinking it would be better sometimes when I don’t have the strength and energy that I used to. I think I could make some yeast rolls, only have to knead about 100 times and that’s not much for a pan of rolls. Used to make them about once a week in the winter and they really loved them. I couldn’t eat them due to having gluten in them.
I have this with the other accessories like making pasta etc..
If you are serious with baking or making fresh pasta, it’s a pretty gadget to have.
(I don’t use it often so I don’t put it in the counter. It’s heavy by the way…)
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@BloviatingBuffoon Yes those heavier made appliances seem to last forever. I have two Pfaff sewing machines that are very heavy. One was manufactured in 1948 and the other in 1952 and they both work very well.
4meAndyou · F
That would be awesome! Of course I would have to get rid of something else...like my microwave...so I could fit it in my kitchen...🤣🤣🤣
joe438 · 61-69, M
They are excellent. The 5qt model that lifts the bowl is better than the smaller one. I’ve had mine for 25+ years.
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
My old one had failed so i bought a new one. It's noisier and jumps around so I looked online and found the parts to fix the old one. Even got the grease and better feet than it originally had. Cost under $50. Only issue i had was putting the brushes in the right way on the sides. Draw where the chamfer goes when you take them out! Adjusted the screw distances like the directions said and now the old one works great! I don't think the new ones can be rebuilt either.
Adrift · 61-69, F
My mom used to have one like that and she made the best cookies and fruitcakes
It would have been nice if that would have happened before I already bought one.

That’s quite the gift. I don’t do a lot but I’d be happy with it
Already have one and they are great.
4meAndyou · F
That's odd. I just had a dream last night. I had let myself in to my mother' empty house, and she had left notes for various people all over the floor. Her note to me was, "Try this applesauce cake recipe! It is SO moist and good!"

I guess a stand mixer would make applesauce cake making a LOT easier!! 🤣🤣🤣
Ontheroad · M
I can't remember what I paid for it, but Amazon got a nice hunk of change for it. The upside is that I've used it and used it, especially for bread and pizza dough... it's the best buy for the kitchen I ever made... this one is the 7-quart monster. Worth every last penny.

AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
That would be awesome. I love baking and I've always wanted one. I wouldn't care what color it was 😂

Already have one in white
Applepiedom · 56-60, M
Love my kitchen aid
Azlotto · M
I already have one.
Azlotto · M
@cherokeepatti I mostly use the dough hook and the meat grinder attachments.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@Azlotto do you have a thing to fill sausages too? Because I’d like to make chicken and beef sausages. I can make the patties from bulk sausage but links would really be good because I like to make recipes from those too.
Azlotto · M
@cherokeepatti
do you have a thing to fill sausages
I do not.
How did you manage that? I always wanted one in colbalt blue or grape (purple), but since being sick I cannot bake like I used to. The only treats that were my nemsis were brownies and baked cheesecake.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@NativePortlander1970 It wasn’t me, it was a friend of the boy’s family that received it. They didn’t want them to send it back either, told them to keep it. They were going to return it if they sent a shipping label.
