Winter. Winter eats the big spiders here. Well, okay, to be honest "winter" eats them here, but I'm from the Midwest originally, so my definitions are a little different than my neighbors'.
Anything above a two or a three on the Schmidt index and I bail; tarantula hawks are below only bullet ants. Thinking about it makes you appreciate killer blizzards.
Nope! The largest spider we have in Massachusetts is the Dark Fishing Spider and the Carolina Wolf spider. Both can have leg spans of up to 3-4".
The above is the Carolina Wolf spider...and I have NEVER seen one, after living here my entire life.
The only know way to kill them without smashing them personally with a large dictionary, is to spray them with pesticides...and I don't use pesticides.
@4meAndyou We have water spiders too! Impressive little creatures, and one of those spiders that scare the crap out of you because they seem to materialize out of thin air... or water. Lightning fast.😳 They can take some sizable prey!
