Street dogs but than who hasn't experienced it

She probably had her babies nearby!

"While muskrats are generally timid animals that prefer to flee from humans, they are known among anglers and wildlife experts for their surprisingly fierce, "honey-badger-like" attitude when provoked. If a muskrat suddenly attacked a human who was fishing, it was likely due to one of the following reasons:
• Protecting a Den or Offspring: If an angler unknowingly steps near or stands directly over a muskrat's underwater den entrance or shoreline burrow, the muskrat will perceive them as an immediate threat. They are intensely protective parents and will launch a vicious defense if they feel their young are in danger.
• Feeling Cornered or Trapped: Wading in the water, standing on a steep bank, or casting from a narrow shoreline can accidentally cut off a muskrat’s escape route. If the animal feels trapped between the angler and the shore, its natural flight response switches instantly to a violent fight response.
• Seasonal Territorial Aggression: During their breeding seasons, muskrats become highly territorial. Driven by hormones, both males and females aggressively defend their home ranges and will boldly challenge anything—including a human—that enters their space.
• Accidental Hooking or Tangling: Muskrats are active swimmers and occasionally collide with fishing lines, flies, or lures. If a muskrat gets tangled or accidentally hooked by a cast, it will panic and lash out aggressively at the closest entity to free itself.
• Disease (Rabies or Tularemia): While less common, a muskrat behaving with completely unprovoked, erratic aggression could be sick. Muskrats can contract and transmit rabies or tularemia, both of which can drastically alter an animal's behavior.
What to do next:
Muskrats have incredibly sharp, powerful front teeth capable of slicing through heavy clothing and wading boots. If a bite or scratch occurred, wash the wound immediately with soap and water and seek medical evaluation right away due to the high risk of severe bacterial infection or viral transmission." @DancingStarGoddess It came out of the water near me, I figured it would scamper off or go back in the water but oh no. It never touched me, thanks to some smooth dance moves 🕺
@Dannydesigns Wow 😳 maybe it freaked because it was startled seeing something so much larger near itself when it emerged. Thankfully you boogied away in time ^•^
Dannydesigns · 26-30, M
@DancingStarGoddess If I could get that thing into a dispute resolution session maybe we could work out its aggression issues 😆
Heard you owed him some money.

A huge buck snorted and huffed at me when I was hanging clothes on the line as a kid. It was terrifying!! 🦌

Just a few run ins with a coastal taipan (King Brown) #5 of the worlds most deadliest snakes)) First time I was about six and one slithered across both my bare feet. 😨

I have experienced a few heart-stopping moments with snakes, but the animals weren't terrorizing me. They were just being snakes when I accidentally invaded their space.
A wasp or two - to be fair, I'd just sprayed a few of their friends up in the eve.

The odd blackfly swarm.

No muskrats yet. Though we'd always see them while fishing the creek.

A muskrat?
Never heard of that
Dannydesigns · 26-30, M
@Virgo79 Me neither. I was led to believe they are docile creatures
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@Dannydesigns been around creeks and ponds for years, they always take off.

Oh yes, an almost adult rat made such a vicious sound that it terrified me. That it was right in front of me and ready to jump didn't help either.
only a split tail bedthrasher
