What spices and herbs do you put in rice?

I'm kind of ordinary...if it's with a meal I just add a little butter, salt, and pepper. When I was growing up It was eaten for desert on occasion, while still hot add a little milk and sugar. Next time I cook it I may try adding different spices to see how it turns out.

@indyjoe do you mean rice pudding? I like it too, especially with cinnamon on top!
Spices are great and can make a simple food so much more interesting.

@HannibalAteMeOut No...I know and like rice pudding myself. I'm just referring to plain cooked rice.

@indyjoe There is an Indian recipe using long-grain rice cooked low with milk, cardamom seeds, chunks of cinnamon sticks, a couple cloves and some black pepper seeds. Takes a long time to cook but it’s very good.
I'm entirely useless at cooking, so, I'm going to say a head of cabbage, a canoe of succulent ham and a hand of bananas.

I make rice a couple of different ways. Depending on what meat I am serving it with, I put Better than Bouillon Chicken or beef bouillon paste right in the water before I add the rice, usually a good heaping tablespoon for 2 cups of dry rice. It makes plain but well seasoned rice. Another thing I do is add 1/4 cup each of red and green chopped frozen peppers to the rice while it is cooking, and when the rice is done I add 1 can of Rotel Tomatoes. This makes a nice, spicy spanish style rice.

I usually make saffron Basmati rice. Sometimes I make Basmati rice with green dill weed and green Lima beans or English peas.
