Why are some people making such a fuss over wearing a mask due to COVID-19?

I mean, no one is forcing you to put on a hazmat suit every time you go out, so what is the big deal? Stop whining and deal with it 😂🤣.

There is a lot of misinformation out there. One of the famous arguments people like to quote is by OSHA saying that masks don't do anything. However OSHA does actually say that surgical masks are effective at preventing the spread of droplets, but are only effective for a limited period of time outside of a sterile environment. So, the way most people wear masks is not actually helpful. (And this is not even counting the dummies who wear them not covering their nose or who take them off to talk which is pointless) But if we were to use masks properly ie buying a box of surgical masks, putting on one as you run a brief errand and then tossing it when you're done, they are an extremely effective method of preventing spread of the illness.

The other big argument made is "wah I can't breathe in them" but a good number of healthcare professionals have debunked this, wearing the masks for hours and literally measuring their blood oxygen content and it did not drop at all. (And yes even people with asthma had the same results). I have seen one doctor mention that if you have severe severe breathing issues (like so bad you are currently hospitalized with them and are constantly struggling to breathe) then yes it could potentially make things worse. But if that is the case you should NOT be out in public anyways (and probably couldn't even leave bed because of how much you are struggling to breath) due to extreme risk from the virus and thus you don't need to wear a mask.

I've also seen one person mention the mask makes their claustrophobia kick in and that is unfortunate. But maybe you need to get your anxiety under control and pop a benzo before you go grocery shopping. Your anxiety is not an excuse for you to spread disease and cause serious harm to others.

That's my rant. Peace out. ✌
Didn't trump say people only wore them as an insult to him?
@canusernamebemyusername Well, Trump is a demented lunatic lol.

I don't understand it either. Some people think we're taking away their rights- though I can't follow the thought process

Bottom line is it made me realize what a selfish society we are. Can't wear a mask for five minutes while you run into Starbucks to protect your neighbors because they're too uncomfy
Peaceful · F
You realize Biden and some governors are looking to make wearing them in public permanent?
Peaceful · F
@latinbutterfly not according to doctors and nurses on the front lines 🤔
@Peaceful So have you done some sort of survey? How would you know that the majority of people wearing masks are just afraid?
@Peaceful Well you are getting oxygen. So... a mask isn’t hindering that.

I always thought that most adults were mature enough to understand that you can't always have things the way you want them. I guess that some simply are not.
@SubstantialKick No. People were whining about having to stay home, now they’re whining about the masks. If they start getting sick again you can bet they’ll be upset about that.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard Yep, and they will have no one to blame but themselves.

@SW-User Nope try again. Especially on number 11. Nice try though.

They are selfish and completely irresponsible. The wearing of masks is a preventable measure of contracting the virus FROM you. The fact that a lot of people are asymptomatic is a major problem as they are unwittingly transmitting the virus to others. The virus can then be passed on to vulnerable people who have underlying conditions and that mades the situation much more serious.
I wonder; when a vaccine is available will they elect to have it or join the idiotic "anti-vaxxers". Time will tell.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Certain companies including travel systems are making the wearing of them compulsory if you want to use their bus/train systems in the UK.

Makes perfect sense to most folk.
@Picklebobble2 The public transportation systems where I live are also doing the same thing.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@latinbutterfly UK shops are getting the go ahead to open today.
you can bet many will be insisting on folk wearing them.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
This is why I feel some people are idiots.

@Beatbox34 Oh yeah. Some Trump supporters think that it is an elaborate scheme by Democrats, to keep him from winning the election 🤣.
Beatbox34 · 31-35, M
@latinbutterfly Now I'm going to the whitehouse lol. I know for sure I can get drugs there in this pandemic 😅.
@Beatbox34 Yeah, Trump flavored Kool-Aid which will make you think that it doesn't exist 😂.
Ladyryan · 51-55, F
I just can't believe how many people can be outrightly in denial after all the numbers of cases rocketing so high weeks after weeks, months after months. They think pandemic is already over because they just want it to be. International Airport in Japan will soon be open for service, we all just hope they could think of a more better regulations with advanced equipments to deal for possible carriers.

It's nothing new. Apparently there were anti mask wearers during the Spanish Flu. Seems to be anything to latch onto to claim rights are being taken.
It's easy to wear one, respectful to others in fact.
SW-User
No idea I don't see the big deal either it's not that bothersome
PhilDeep · 51-55, M
Because idiots moan without thinking much?
Ladyryan · 51-55, F
@PhilDeep Idiot is an under rated word for these kinds of people.
xSiFiGamer2016x · 22-25, M
No wonder more cases are piling up.

I wouldn't care about how people think of me for wearing a mask, at least I'm protected, and the ones who don't wear them are stupid, let alone not caring about health.
marybmom · 41-45, F
would you see it differently if it were required to wear a hazmat suit?
Is that right ? I never got that memo, did you l.b. ? 😃
@bijouxbroussard Nope, I sure didn't 🤷🏻‍♀️.
@marybmom Clearly not the point.
JohnRing · 56-60, M
It’s literally the least you can do.
dommagic · M
I’m honestly curious about one comment, where is it where Biden and some governors made comments about wanting to make wearing masks a permanent thing?
@dommagic I've heard of that but haven't found it anywhere...hmmm 🤔.
dommagic · M
Yeah lol that’s pretty much my reaction @latinbutterfly
smiler2012 · 56-60
latinbutterly exactly it is for your own protection it is not big or clever not to
jackson55 · M
They are becoming a fashion statement.
